It was uncomfortable for various reasons and we feel we didn't get our money's worth. The room was not exactly a suite - it was a basement room with both windows blocked off with heavy blankets. So no city views, nor views at all. There were several large pipes running through the room, and every time someone used the bathroom or turned the water on upstairs, we would hear a loud noise. No blanket was provided - we found this out late at night and since didn't manage to contact anyone, we had to look for one in one of the closets in the basement hallway. Finally, there was a sauna but no instructions were initially given, so we couldn't use it the first night (instructions were given on the second day).

The staff was friendly and welcoming, although we only interacted with someone on the first day, then didn't see anybody else.

The property manager Avery was excellent. So accommodating, kind and pleasant. He showed us around the kitchen area and helped with getting around. It is located near a Lidl grocery store and Rosa's pizzeria which we really enjoyed.

Needs renovation. Bed frame broken, bathroom mirror cabinet broken, doors do not close properly.. the biggest problem (cold weather) the heating system. Water based system, which should have a relief pipe leading outside. Well it does not. It terminates in one of the rooms. So when pressure is relieved by release of steam - it happens IN THE ROOM. Ridiculous. Creates mold. Is loud, hot, humid… you get my point. When I asked for another room I was told that since I am the only tenant they will turn off the heating in the house. They did not just let me move. Did I mention I was the only person staying there??

This was an amazing stay. The place was cozy and comfortable. Very clean and the staff were pleasant and attentive. I would absolutely book again vs. a regular hotel. Its in a convenient location if you need to travel uptown or downtown - only 2 blocks away from the A,C,D,B trains and close to shopping and food spots.

The room was a crazy set up. There was no bathroom door..just a half a wall so there was no privacy. The open floor plan also featured a shower that was also open to the rest of the room and apparently a water heater system that was limited. so the second shower was lukewarm.

There was no breakfast. And the coffee maker was broken so they had only instant coffee.

This is trivial but there is no microwave oven available. I like warm milk in my coffee and had to heat it on the stove in a pot. The room we had, the Manhattan Suite, is in the basement and is advertised as having a city view. I knew this when it was booked. We asked for this room since it has a direct door to the street and we were told we could use this door, then when we got there, we were told they couldn't find the key. Going in via the main door was ok, but my wife has an issue with stairs and this room could have been ideal...but...it wasn't close. The room is small, dank, the windows are sealed shut and there are curtains over the windows that can't be opened. On the day we checked out we were shown that on one of the windows, the curtain lifts about ⅓ of the way up. The sheets seemed old and tired, same with the blanket. I booked this without realizing that I had contacted this owner through another site and either couldn't get questions answered or her answers were vague and incomplete, so, I decided not to book this rental. Then bumped into it on Booking dot com without realizing it was the same location.

Kitchen was nice. House as a whole is OK. Staff are friendly. For my purposes the location was excellent (our son lives a few short blocks away).

The room was different from what we saw in the pictures and was in the basement. There was no window, the furniture looked old, and the pillow didn't smell good. If you are staying in this place, make sure you are not booking the basement.

They have unlimited spring water bottle and the bathroom was big and renewed.

The building was gorgeous. So much beautiful detail in terms of polished wood, artistic tile and mosaic, and antique furniture. The location was convenient, and we were given a key for easy access in & out.

Beautiful property in a very central part of Harlem. Was nice to get a feel for NYC brownstone living. The unit had plenty of old-school touches while still feeling very comfortable and modern. The neighborhood was fun to rock walk around and very quick to get to Midtown. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff, would stay again.

A home away from home! The staff was outstanding, the home is so beautiful and spacious. I stood at the Garden Suite, room has a private hot tub and back yard. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped, all guests have access to utilizing it.

Two steepish flights of internal stairs to our room. Not a big issue but something to consider. A nice touch might be to have a kettle in the room for times of feeling like a cuppa and not wanting to tackle the stairs.

There is very limited on street parking. I used a garage around the corner, but the garage isn't accessible 24hrs a day. The front door is up a flight of stairs, the rooms are down another, there is no elevator. The room only had one, coded lock. There were no other guests while I was there, and I absolutely felt safe but a second lock seems like a good idea.

Loved the beautiful, eclectic decor. The location was great. The doormen were friendly and helpful. The sauna was so relaxing. The bed was comfortable. There's a beautiful kitchen guests may use. I also asked to see the other room (the room with a hot tub) for future visits, it was beautiful and has outdoor access. When I return in the spring I will probably reserve that room. Will DEFINITELY visit again.

The host and staff were incredible! They were very nice and helpful, and did all that they could to make our stay as amazing as possible! It’s a beautiful place in a safe area and it’s not far from the subway station. This was truly the best place that we could have stayed in the city!

Staff was very professional and polite. The brownstone felt like home, was exceptionally clean, a nice quiet atmosphere with great accommodations and the location was perfect to get to a prestigious dental office walking only 13 minutes. This is definitely a hidden gem!

Our entire stay at Northern Lights was fantastic. From the moment I booked my stay- the manager was in contact contact with me. Our flight got delayed on check in day and he was checking in on us and making sure we were all set. I will say there was a 100$ check in fee for checking in after midnight- however, the manager stayed at the building until we got there, so I understand. Aubrey- the houseman- was just an absolute delight. He was so friendly, interactive, and just a great person to sit and have a conversation with. He really made our stay great with being attentive to just being so nice and welcoming. Thanks Aubrey! They offered coffee in the morning and water 24/7. Our room was fantastic. And the location is in Harlem- so it was a perfect place to catch a subway to all the main attractions while also being in a quiet neighborhood. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling here and our friends and family.

housekeeper and his comments and nagging

The (originally Kolumbian) cleaner/hosekeeper distubed us all of the time more and more, commentying personal things and ordering us and telling how wrong I was - like we were kinds. He tryed to make us argue together, so he could spend time with my niece. Roy was ok.

Everything advertised was a lie but what’s more disappointing was how I was treated after I pointed this out. I paid a nice amount of money so I didn’t expect all of the false advertising. My “balcony” is a roof top area that you climb out of the window & step down on to a step stool to get to with no gate or boarding to prevent a fall. my “walk in closet” could barely fit my coat in it. You have to stand on the edge of the roof to see the “garden view” Just to see everyone else’s property well maintained not mine. But honestly the treatment I received when the jacuzzi stopped working solidified me never coming back here. around 11pm as my wife was in the jacuzzi waiting for me to get in & it just completely died. for a few minutes we tried to turn it back on but nothing happened. so I went down to the office to find a note on the door to “call Audrey”. I called the number just to be told that he left to go see his mom & he would be back around 1am. annoyed but understanding I simply agreed to this. he calls me back a few minutes later to tell me to “hit the jacuzzi button on the circuit breaker “. reluctantly I did it but it Never felt good that no one was there to help with this issue. The circuit breaker didn’t fix the problem so I called him back & at this point was-told it was Pointless to come back To Get there at 3am & can’t fix the problem. unable to do anything about the situation we tried to enjoy our night as best as possible since this was a birthday trip. The next morning the maintenance guy was very rude to us while we were explaining the issue & showing him the videos of what was taking place the night before. He literally told us after he fixed the issue he purposefully turned our unit off since we had so many complaints. He was very argumentative & just not helpful.

The host was so welcoming and helpful! I loved that there was plenty of coffee, water, and snacks readily available. It's an older building with beautiful woodwork, wooden stairs, etc. The stairs creak, but not more than to be expected. I loved the aesthetic. The room was spotless, and I felt very safe.

The shower spout in the room with the sauna wouldn't stay upright, so it was spraying towards the back of the shower the whole time. Still functional, but the lever was loose I think.

It was wonderful being in a quieter part of town. We appreciated the comfort of the beds and the hospitality of the hosts. The common room areas were fun to spend time in. We also loved the private sauna :)

huh, what to say! I was very excited to stay here, the house and the location is just amazing.... but... here they offer to organise a shuttle service, I called and texted multiple times before I came to make them organise me a taxi. no one responded, they just do not use their phone or mail or booking platform. There was a secretary that didnt even hosted me properly, she was standing in front of the house yelling something like we know eachother for years and she told me few times that she is an owner but she actually was only a front desk receptionist. They also blocked my card on the check in so I had no money during my arrival. Also, they do not know how to use the Booking.com platform so when I told the owner Diana my concerns - they didn't do anything. House is really beautiful and worh the stay BUT I wanted to prolong one more night and the owner wanted to rip me off for 125$ more than actual price is, which is A LOT for one night. All in all, I would recomend staying here only because you will meet Aubrey- the host. He is the best, he is the only one who helped me with everything and hosted me properly- because of him I am not feeling sorry that I stayed. I do not regret staying here but ended up very disappointed in owner Diana and staff. save your time and do not send them messages because they will not respond or they will for a week or more. Also, they have wrong number here on Booking.com so do not rely on that.
