Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesOne half of the rental didn't have electricity and the property manager didn't warn us before hand. That half of the building included the heater so I had to walk around with a blanket everywhere. Had I known I would have brought long sleeves and pants. Per my friends, the beds were either lumpy or too hard (mine was great though).
General stores and cafes were nearby for food. I liked you could cook simple meals if you wanted to. This was a really beautiful and quiet location. Easy instructions for getting the key and how to turn on the heating. Hot tub was warm with good atmosphere, lots of pretty birds around it if you're into bird watching. Good Internet and always had hot water in the shower.

United StatesI hated the entire trip due to this horrible room stay. The hot tub was green and gross. Had dirt and rocks at the bottom. Way too hot and then next day it wasn't even working. Belongings of others left in the room and even their used coffee filter and grounds were left for us to clean up. No room cleaning service and didn't even leave a broom for us to do the cleaning ourselves. Will not recommend to any even desperate for a room. Tried contacting the owner to fix this issue and they were no help.
Was not as advertised. Not even close. Light blues blown, TV didn't work, smelled like mold, curtains had mold. Previous party before us still had belonging in the room. And there was trash left all over the room. 5 night stay and 1 roll of tp and only two towels.

United StatesSlippery bathroom floor. With such high humidity the bathroom floor was like an ice rink. This was also true at the next hotel we visited in the main lobby. There may be very little one can do to change this without completely removing and replacing the flooring. It was really a very minor thing and once recognized it was simple to adjust to.
Beautiful location and host went out of their way to assist with a situation we experienced last minute.

United Statesone pillow each person (flat and small), one towel, cup, cutlery, hanger, etc. Per person, no way to wash/dry anything used, nothing provided fresh 1/2 through stay, furnished w/partially broken stuff, things kind of work, poor wifi (had to use mobile), small TV, dead remote, hottube falling apart so you get flakes of stuff all over while in it, walk there is block by parked cars, the corner widows are nice if you could see out of them. Covered in humidity inside/buildup and makes a water puddle in corner, table only seats 3. Unit wasn't cleaned well. No fans of any kind, no blow dryer, needs broom (sand)& fly swatter. You can't drink the water from tap & no water tower or system to drink from. Plan accordingly (makes things harder). Someone lived in their van in one of the parking spaces during our stay. This place left a lot to be desired and the host was not very host-ish. (Don't take my word for it, read thier replies' to other reviews on here) If we ever get to come back again we will stay somewhere else.
Wouldn't have stayed here if I knew what I know now. If you are only going to the volcano/staying a day might be a good for you. If you are coming to see the big island/stay longer I would suggest to keep looking. The main beach is over 2.5 hours away other is 1.5 hours away (w/o traffic. You have to travel to purchase/eat anything. Host was contacted for paper towels and coffee day2, was combative on the phone (put out?) said would bring some in the end, never did. So we bought them some. Can't fly home with it so you're welcome. Bought a few other needed items. They are on the property with you (I think) so didn't call to try again(didn't want conflict and make the best of our trip). Spiders/webs cover exterior, mold in corners, bugs&roches in unit, dehumidifier on 24/7 (plugged into only plug with constant power) &couldn't keep up, too small for space, electricity is finicky not consistant, one pillow each person (flat and small),
