Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyYou have to be aware that the place is operated on solar power and a generator. The first thing you should do is to take a look at the generator, because when we came in the late evening, the previous guests seemed to have used up most of the batteries and after one hour we sat in the dark, not knowing how to operate the generator. This made us go to bed early using our smartphone lamps and some torches we found. Turning on the generator on the next day was no big deal, but in the night without proper lights we did not want to search it. The next days the solar power was enough to get us through all days and nights without problems and we didn't need the generator at all. Don't know what the previous guests did to get the batteries emtpy...
The house sits in the middle of a place that is surrounded by plants and flowers. This location was magic, as we could listen to the sounds of different little animals, such as bell frogs, in the night. We loved the place and enjoyed our stay very much.

United StatesThe property was very difficult to get to, even with an off road 4 wheel drive vehicle. When we finally did get there, the automatic lock wouldn’t open and we couldn’t get into the property. The owner didn’t answer the phone or messages asking for help. We had to leave and get a motel room because we had no where to stay. Awful experience.

AustraliaThis is an off-grid house, solar power is available during the day but very limited at night (1-2 hours max). You need to run the gas generator which is very loud and kinda ruins the nice quiet atmosphere. There is little help if things don't work as the owner (at least during our stay) was not on the island. If you are comfortable with running a gas generator for about 2 hours a night and if lamps were provided so that you could manage without electricity at night it would be better. Also fill the bathtub with water so you can refill the toilet as no power = no water. Note shower water pressure and temp fine if power is on. A different place to stay and good if you are ok with roughing it a bit.
It is a very nice house, located in a quite setting. Very relaxing location, not too far from the Volcano National Park and the south east side of the island.

United StatesIt’s an off the grid house but that’s not listed on the headline neither on the description of the property. You only find out that you need to deal with power outage and generator after you pay and book it. Just then you receive this long messages with all the instructions about how to deal with everything. That’s not what we’re looking for when we book a regular accommodation. There was no water pressure on any faucet, shower and tub. Only cold water (no hot water at all during our stay, we toke a cold shower late at night when we arrived and couldn’t bathe the kids). Next morning we had no electricity early in morning and the generator wasn’t working. The owner of the property sounded really nice and apologetic at first and offered a discount and partial refund but then tried to canceling the refund with booking later on, not honorable. She also stated that the water pressure issue had been mentioned by previous guests.
Beautiful place.
