Nice and clean, perfect location to walk to the Hilo center and to get the bus to different locations - beaches, Volcano National Park etc. Friendly staff and good facilities to cook your own food. Made some friends there too!

The location is really close to most attractions in downtown Hilo, so even if you aren't driving, you can still easily Uber to most places from the hostel. It's also only 10 minutes away from the Hilo airport by car. The bus terminal is within walkable distance (about 15-20m) if you are planning to take the bus to the volcanoes national park. The owner and staff are friendly and super helpful. The beds are comfy too. Definitely recommend it if you're travelling on a budget! There are also lockers in the common area - just have to bring your own pad lock.

It is not the problem of the hostel. It is the problem of public transport. Buses do not arrive punctual as suggested by Google map.

Ummmm…nothing as far as I could see. Private room was about double the price for bunks, but dorm served my purpose well.

I actually live on Hawaii Island, but was in Hilo for a conference which started early and ran late. I came late and out very early in the morning, so did not utilize most amenities. However, when I checked in briefly in the afternoon, staff showed me various amenities and offered to accommodate my early morning departure and set the coffee to brew at 4:00 AM. The entire place was super clean and well maintained. When I arrived at 10:30 PM the place was very quiet and room mates were already asleep. I do not usually stay in hostels in Hawaii, but Big Island was exactly what I needed: perfect location close to conference, easy late access with door code, clean and comfortable bunks set up for good privacy, a very nice lockable shower room, easy and safe parking. And oh yeah, a nice price. AND, apparently considerate and well behaved guests.

Loved the whole experience.

The facility was a fantastic value. The attention to the needs of guests in advance was truly remarkable. The layout was well-planned, such that rarely was there a wait for restroom facilities. The staff was friendly and attentive and readily available for check-in. The grounds are well maintained and very clean considering the number of guests. I extended my stay several times and found each of the different suites comfortable and cozy. A great place to end each day of a Hawaiian island adventure.

Amazing service, and everything was spotless! Lau is an exceptional host, making everyone feel right at home, and it showed in the comfort and ease of connection between the guests. Great location. Walking distance to all the happenings downtown, but nestled in a less busy corner at the edge of town. Morning Uber ride to the airport was only $12+tip.

No reading lamp at the bed and the AC that is a bit noisy inside the room.

This is the hostel with the best bed and pillow I have ever checked in to. The staff was really nice and the common areas were full of places and corners for you to check out. The guest policy and rules were solid and ensured everyone's comfort. The shared bathroom was always kept nice and tidy. The noise level was surprisingly moderate although the staff always played loud music in the reception area, so it was not really audible inside the room. Good stays for people on tight budget, but still doesn't want to compromise on the cleanliness and comfort of the accommodation.

Private room does get very stuffy during the day so not ideal to stay put in it in the middle of the day.

A lovely little hostel located close to local dining, shops and the beach. Very safe and secure with keycode entries. They do have parking out the back street which can be tight if it's a full house, but when not, it's super convenient as you don't get charged. The private room was very clean and comfortable with shower and toilet right outside the entrance. The kitchen and common area it very clean and well looked after and I loved the clothes swap, bookshelf and board games available for use. The hosts Lau, Zen and Calista were wonderful to deal with.

I had a top bunk during my stay. I am a heavier person and while the top bunk was quite sturdy and I did feel secure, I would really have liked an option for a bottom bunk when booking.

The morning coffee was great and the location is very central to Hilo. I was walking distance to many dining options and a very nice park.
