Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United States"Oceanview room" wasn't the best as the view was obstructed by trees near the golf course which made me question the value for money. I called front desk and they were supposed to move us to a room closer to the ocean but never received any call back. We were also told that if a room wasn't available, the manager would provide some other concession but we never heard from the manager either.
Lagoon was great as was the pool. We really enjoyed the various eating options and facilities. The garden areas were also very comforting and relaxing. Finally, the available bikes to go around Waikalola was a great option.

United StatesHorrible service with very limited food options. The pool bar staff is short handed and over worked. The food is nothing better than mediocre and the price just made it an insult. Hidden fees everywhere you turn and the location is so remote you are basically trapped and at the mercy of some extremely bad management. Not to mention the clogged shower drain. There are plenty of better places to stay with better food and much better representation of Hawaiian culture. For the price it costs to stay at the Fairmont Orchid you would expect a top notch experience, sad to say that isn’t so. Please higher some management that actually knows what they’re doing. 🤙🏾 Nice beds, though.

United Statesthere isn’t much to do besides the pool and the beach if you have a child. And there’s only one location to eat lunch (the other is a deli with sandwiches.) Even room service is closed during lunch! The food choices were EXTREMELY limited. The three of us dined at one of their restaurants, spent $415 and were really disappointed by the food. Would not return, as this is a big deal, especially when we spent well over $15k on our stay + food.
the beds were really comfortable and most of the staff was welcoming!

United StatesWe didn’t get our room until 4:05 pm, and that was after I had to go back to the front desk to ask for the status. Check in is 4pm, but resorts of this caliber or even more affordable hotels, usually let you check in by 3 pm at the latest. Once we finally got a room, there was no hot water. Had to call the front desk and maintenance came by after about 20 mins. Advises us it could be a couple hours before the problem was fixed. All the while we had just come from a 4 hour hike, were dying for a warm shower and needed to get ready for dinner at Brown’s at 5:30pm. Initially, the manager offered another room on the same floor to take a shower only- so we would need to go to another room with all our shower items (like a dorm) to have a warm shower. I wasn’t thrilled about it, especially after paying over $900 a night for a room, but thanked her for the option and agreed. She then called me back and advised there were no rooms on my same floor, but would it be ok to go to another floor to shower. Again, I would have to lug my things around like a dormitory, to another floor in order to have a warm shower. I decided I would not have a cold shower. The problem did eventually get resolved while we were at dinner, and the resort comp’d us $100. But, all in all, kind of amateur hour for the Fairmont when charging that kind of money per night.
The location and beach area are gorgeous. So quintessential Hawaii with an elegant vibe. Was not over crowded compared to less expensive resorts. Brown’s Beach House was also spectacular and the service was very good.
