A very well located and generally great place to stay.

Being a historic property the bathroom in rooms are very quaint but have a very high step to get in/out tubs/showers without non-slip rubber mats. For elderly guests this makes the showers difficult or per perhaps risky to get in/out of the showers.

The food served in the hotel was excellent.

Only complaint- those ginormous pillow blocks! what were they- memory foam? Would have liked a normal feather pillow or two

Beautiful decor, lovely that an actual hot breakfast was served buffet style, I don't recall reading that when I booked! Room was attractively furnished with Long drapes and refrigerator and set at perfect temperature I never had to fuss with!

Nothing to not like honestly. The bar even has several good mezcals.

Absolutely stunning. Everything from the amazing staff to the cozy room and great location. Grass Valley is fantastic. I wish we could've made it to the comedy show that was happening downstairs, but we had dinner reservations upstairs.

The food in the dining room/saloon was not as tasty as I had hoped. Plus, it was very expensive.

    The breakfast, yes.

I didn’t like that I didn’t have a way to control the heat. You have to call front desk for them to regulate it. Which is a little inconvenient, especially if you’re like me and like to get it “perfect”. Also the breakfast could be spruced up. And the coffee could be much better. But really minor things, in comparison to all the pros.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! I love that every little aspect of the hotel has an antique touch to it. The decor is so old time feel, yet modern. Really very stylish. The bar area is very nice as well. The appetizers are delicious and so is the beer. Parking is also very convenient. Really a great hotel….more beautiful than most hotels you’ll ever stay in.

Surprised that the room did not have a TV but internet was fast and dependable. Spent the evening watching movies on my computer so no TV wasn't an issue.

Everything about the hotel was excellent. We had dinner and the food was great and service was better. Check in was easy and staff was outstanding.

We stayed in the annex and did not have control over the temperature of our room. The bathroom was freezing. They also charged us a $15 a night amenities fee, which was not listed in the price on Booking.com.

The room decor was wonderful. The bed was comfortable. The bar and restaurant were beautifully decorated. Grass Valley is a very charming town.

Lunch was just okay. Would have liked an anti-slip pad in the claw foot tub for shower. It felt dangerous getting in and out of the tub.

Purcell House is quieter regarding street noise, but you can hear the other guests walking around at times. Just the case with such an old building but it wasn't a big problem. I was surprised at the arbitrary charge for amenities.

Purcell House room was very comfortable and appreciated all the nice touches. Though they charged extra - a surprise - for "amenities" (water, scones/coffee in the morning) I have to say that that mini-breakfast was tasty and welcome. The chef did some extraordinary things at dinner! Loved the food and drinks. Enjoyed the lobby areas and the outside tables. Location was perfect for Grass Valley. Bath was delightful as was the robe. Staff were so friendly and accommodating that I'd love to take them home with me! I truly enjoyed the stay and will recommend it highly.

Our room’s fancoil unit made loud grinding noises throughout the night. The staff kicked us back $16 for the inconvenience, but that seemed somewhat inadequate to my sleep-deprived brain. We were in Room 5, as I recall.

Loved the location and the vitality of its lobby and bar(s).

    Nothing.

It was clean and very homey. I also loved that it had a bar and a restaurant right there. You can have your fair share of alcohol…in front of a working fireplace…and be safe going to your room. Loved it!

Wow, could you have chosen a California wine less expensive to leave in the room for purchase and tasting? Please, it is a reach for some of us to stay in a lovely hotel such as this but to leave such pricey drinks and snacks in the room - we were afraid to even touch and look at them!

Loved the claw foot tub and details that made you feel you were back in the past!
