Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIt can be cleaner - more attention to detail. The bathroom door couldn’t close properly. You can’t open the window at all, which makes it a bit claustrophobic since the rooms are quite small. The refrigerator is too loud. Bathroom towels had holes. It would be great if the rooftop restaurant was open in the mornings, too.
Great location, away from the Manhattan hustle and bustle but still one subway stop away. It felt nice to start the day here and come back to a quiet neighborhood. The beds are very comfortable. Nice design. The rooftop restaurant is amazing because of the views.

United StatesWhen I made the reservation and picked the room, the bed was advertised as queen size, but what we got was the smaller double. When we arrived, the front desk staff described the room as an “upgrade”, which was false. The room did not accommodate two adults - only one chair, only one luggage stand, only six clothes hangers, only three tiny cabinet drawers for clothing, and the smaller than advertized bed.
We did not partake in the hotel’s breakfast; we enjoyed the water bottle refill, the cast to screen TV and wifi, the shower, the feeling of security and cleanliness.

FranceI generally prefer hotels that have a nice lobby as I enjoy the social experience. The Penny doesn’t have a lobby, but the rooms and incredible rooftop make up for it. My only real complaint is that when I order room service, I expect real plates and silverware, not carry-out containers.
The rooms are small but perfectly designed. I come to New York for long stays (10-12 days) and enjoy staying at the Penny because it feels like a mini-apartment. I love the little details in the room, such as the artwork, real plants, good books, drip coffee, nice robes, quality toiletries, and cute throw pillows. And the rooftop, it’s incredible!

BelgiumWhile there is a kitchenette, options for preparing your own breakfast or meals are very limited; for instance, there are no sharp knifes. The receptionists are professional, though only a few of them go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. As mentioned by other reviewers, the lobby is quite small and there is no lounge area.
Great option for a short stay in Williamsburg. Loved the cozy room and was lucky enough to have been given a room with a wonderful view by a a particularly service-oriented receptionist. Very pleasant rooftop bar/restaurant with a late night happy hour.

United KingdomAfter staying in Manhattan for work for a week the Penny was a welcome change of pace. Spacious, bright rooms with a super comfortable bed, seating area and a wee kitchen. The bathroom is a good size and has all the products you’d want as well as towels that are actually adult sized (anyone else hate those tiny hotel towels that would barely cover a child?!) A big factor in booking was that all the artwork has been created by disabled artists- this is the area I work in and it’s really exciting to see a hotel supporting their local disability arts focused organisations. The area is great, quiet but just a short walk to cafes, bars and the subway and it felt safe to wander in on my own. It will absolutely be my go to hotel next time I’m in the area

CanadaHonestly, there's not much that could have changed to make the experience better.
We absolutely loved the Penny hotel. It was the perfect location in Brooklyn / Williamsburg, close to great coffee shops, restaurants, bars and amazing shopping. The rooftop patio had a stunning view of the city and it's the perfect spot to have a drink and plan out your day or night. We were able to hop on the train a few blocks away and get into Manhattan in minutes. It also allowed us to explore more of Brooklyn without feeling like it was a big journey to get there. We will absolutely be staying here again the next time we're in NYC.

United StatesOnly one yoga mat in the room.
We arrived to a pleasant door person. They provided us with information and two celebratory free drinks for my wife’s birthday at el Nico. They also gave us an upgraded queen suite!! Who does that?! The Penny does! The room was so spacious. Plenty of space for morning yoga. Comes with a fridge, and it’s a big one. A microwave. Coffee pour over in room or go down stairs to fill up a cup. We loved el Nico. Ate there twice with friends and sat outside. The sun set on Thursday night was heaven.

CanadaI was staying to recover from a jaw surgery and I could not unfortunately try their top floor restaurant but I went to have a look. First, I looked at the menu and it seemed pricey … then , I turned around and entered the restaurant for a look : wow! It’s really elegant with an incredible night view on both sides on Brooklyn/NYC . With a low lighting , the views were spectacular.
I was staying in the Majesty suite which is like a small apartment full of trendy / hipster decorations: it has a full big kitchen (but no oven) with fridge, freezer and microwave, a living room with its own huge tv, a big private terrace and its own separate bedroom with a huge adjoining bathroom with a great bath. Beddings and pillows are very comfortable. Size of the bed is a queen (not a king) and the bedroom has also its own tv. In the living room, we can hear a little bit the neighbors through the adjoining door but otherwise, in the separate bedroom (which closes, has a door) it’s complete silence. This big one bedroom apartment is very well made (it even has an extra bathroom with shower) right at the entrance. The service you get from the staff is very good: personalized and caring. They do care and it really shows that they want you to have a nice stay. They have put a lot of money in making these rooms with quality products and are delivering an extremely good service. It’s really a unique trendy place with a hipster vibe with the room amenities and service of a 5 stars hotel.

United StatesThis is brand new, sweet little hotel. Rooms have clever "Brooklyn-esque" designs and features...like pour over coffee. (There's also ready brewed coffee downstairs in the a.m.) Rooms were very clean, good bathroom/shower, In addition to coffee making equipment, there is a small fridge and microwave, so you could set up here for a number of days. Excellent transportation options and great variety of restaurants and cafes in the area. The only possible caveat -- for a couple, the layout could be awkward -- most rooms have the bed tucked in by the wall. There are some slightly larger ones with access on both sides.
