Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Statesmaybe upgrade the room carpets in the near future, but it’s still good enough for now
not not a corporate owned sterile hotel. Instead it’s a unique old school gem in downtown Oakland. Sure it can use some new carpets and a this and that upgrade, however i love the place just as it is. Has everything i need, easy access, very friendly staff, and comfort

United StatesThe building was very, very old. I really don't think my room had been cleaned thoroughly, just the bed made and surfaces barely wiped down. What I really did not like was the aloofness of the young lady. behind the desk, as she had no personality at all and made me feel unwelcome, but she maybe was having a bad day.
It was close to my destination and there were places to eat around the area. Thank goodness it was only one night.

CanadaThe staff was very helpful about telling us where we could park our rental car safely overnight. The hotel was quiet and right near downtown. There was a farm market around the corner the next morning and bunch of interesting shops and cafes in the area.

United StatesThe area was rough. Our room was very outdated. There were some plumbing issues but it's to be expected because the building is so old.
I liked the antique features in the hotel. They tried to keep up with the original design.

United StatesThe building is quite old and rooms could use a little love. It was odd to see window hangings on tension poles at odd angles, and a plastic bag over the sprinkler in the bathroom. A very continental breakfast was available but a lot of disposable utensils used, which felt a bit wasteful. Parking is available, but not included; there some arrangement with the convention center garage down the street in the ballpark of $25/day.
Excellent value and located in just a perfect spot for business needs. Very close to the 19th St BART station. The bed and linens were very comfortable. Staff at the front desk were very friendly and eager to share ideas about the surrounding area.

ItalyThe breakfast was quite light with little to choose from and almost all pre-packaged and processed, although the bagels were a nice touch and the coffee was decent. The room wasn't bad but the carpet felt sticky and not clean. Shower was spacious and HOT (it was hard to get to a not boiling temperature).
The location was marvellous (super close to BART station for access to anywhere and to ferry direct to SF; next to convention center with parking) and the building lovely. Staff was kind and super helpful. Room was decent.

The breakfast is convenient and acceptable. I love the King Suite and the staff is friendly and helpful. This is my new home away from home. I live in East Contra Costa and when I know I'm going to be in the east bay for a long period this is the first place I try to stay!

EcuadorThe hotel is at the edge of the nicer part of the city and more dangerous areas. If you walk in “the wrong direction”, you are in dangerous neighborhoods. This splashes a bit into the hotel, over a pedios of 4 days I saw two different cars vandalized with the windows broken and stolen within 50 feet of the hotel door. So be careful to familiarize with the area. The type of room I was in was adequate for a single traveler, but not having nightstands, or the bed almost edged to the wall, makes it hard for traveling as a couple. The complimentary WiFi is only adequate for moderate texting and checking nearby places. Trying to stream a movie requires multiple connection attempts, retry, freezes and frustrations. Finally, the price competes with much nicer offerings in Oakland and San Francisco, so I think the money value of the offer is a tad lower than other better and newer facilities.
The hotel is near the “nicer” part of Oakland, and conveniently located two blocks away from the BART station, which makes it ideal for moving around, even to the San Francisco area. Also, the breakfast was a Continental bufet (no eggs), but very well a sorted. Keep the dates of reviews in mind, as some reviews front the pandemic relate a different story about breakfast. Finally, the staff was really helpful and with a lively attitude that was really pleasant. They hold packages from deliveries at no extra cost (which some hotel do charge for)
