For a 5-start, there's some missing points, for example wifi was unstable at breakfast restaurant, front door there's no one welcoming you (small detail, but again is a 5 star), so super small details, but is clearly the concept of a modern 5, if you like it is super nice, if you like more traditional probably you will miss some details.

It's new, modern, and gym is among the bests I've seen for a hotel (is shared with the residence, but still 1st tier). Staff during the day is super welcoming.

Our room at check-in was not the cleanest this time around. I had stayed at the Thompson just a week prior for a work event and could immediately tell the difference in how they prepped my room when returning this time for personal travel. The high touch/traffic areas were not properly cleaned and the room in general I found dust in some areas. Not a dirty space, but needed a deep clean. We called for cleaning service on our room on our first day and the cleaning staff made it better as best they could, working around our luggage and belongings. As far as the hotel amenities, the Nine at the National restaurant has very friendly staff and great food, but the overall service experience isn't up to par. The restaurant is clearly understaffed which makes the guests almost feel bad for the servers/bartenders because they are totally overwhelmed with all the tasks they are juggling. Yet, they always had a smile and tried to be helpful/available. Plan to wait an 45 - 60 mins for your food. This restaurant also services the pool area, which also needs better staffing and service experience. These areas of the hotel are a missed opportunity for the Thompson.

The hotel is beautiful and well-located for those that want to be downtown and close to restaurants and shopping. It feels like a 5-star experience. The front desk staff are friendly and courteous, and you can tell have high touch service experience. The rooms area spacious with comfy beds, great bathrooms with high water-pressure shower, and beautifully modern decor. The room felt as as high end as the hotel common areas, which I really appreciated. Having 2 exceptional restaurants and spa services on site was a bonus. The Monarch and the Catbird restaurants were both a fabulous and delicious. I want a glass of champagne when I checkin at every restaurant now! I felt pampered by this hotel experience.

The rooms didn't have a USB-C port to charge most up to date phones and devices. Also, the shower had very hot water and the temperature control knob was not very responsive and hard to control temperature.

Staff were friendly and helpful There was something wrong with the room we were supposed to stay in and they put us in the penthouse suite instead. Huge amount of space. Was a novelty for us having never stayed in a suite like this. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Food was very good and the staff serving us wonderful.

Breakfast was in a beautiful setting at Nine at the National. The menu was diverse and table service rather than buffet style. The servers were all very nice. The outdoor pool and gym area are great. We had cocktails in Catbird and dinner in Monarch which had amazing views. The food was delicious however you pay for this experience.

My co-workers had a gift delivered to me at the hotel. Since I left my "do not disturb" sign on throughout my stay, hotel staff did not make contact with me to arrange delivery. Part of the gift was never received. Also, I was placed in an adjoining room, which resulted in the ability to hear most of what my neighbors were saying. I like complete quiet but didn't have this.

The hotel has lovely sitting areas off the lobby. Just gorgeous. The gym had indoor and outdoor space and was impressive for a hotel gym. It also appears that there is a residence associated with the hotel which might explain the higher-end feel. I slept well as the bed was extremely comfortable.

Our room was located on the corner next to the elevator and the maintenance closet - If I had known that and was willing to move I would have done so as it was quite loud at all times of the night. Next time we will make sure we request a room away from the corner!

Our stay at the Thompson was so special! We loved how beautiful and well appointed our room was, and each and every staff member went above and beyond to meet our needs. The hotel is beautiful and our dinner and drinks at Catbird and Monarch were amazing!
