Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesBreakfast reservations were limited due to Covid and we did not have the luxury of waiting around, but we certainly understood the reason.
Location, although we could not take advantage of it because it snowed 4 inches just as we got there. We enjoyed sitting around the fireplace enjoying drinks and dinner after a busy week of travelling. This was a one-of-a-kind place that we will always remember.

United StatesIt is definitely overpriced for the value. The rustic preservation of the lodge is commendable but a facelift is needed. Food options were limited and were ok but overpriced.
The location is unreal. Your right at the base of Mt Hood at the top of the world with incredible vantage of all the other cascade volcanos. Really nice swimming pool that the kids loved.

United StatesDue to Covid restrictions we had to walk down to order all meals and then pay extra for delivery fees even though we tipped well and ordered on our own at the restaurant area. Too cold to sit outside in the tent.
Loved the views, enjoyed the pool. Very nice large room. Great staff.

United StatesRooms are very tiny and earplugs are provided for a reason. The historic look of the lodge is amazing, but comparable room prices elsewhere would get you something that is much higher quality, if that’s what you are expecting. Limited menu options. Lots of day traffic make it feel crowded.
This is a fantastic place to stay if you are going to ski, hike or bike. Great dining views and outdoor sitting areas.

United StatesThere really is nothing here not to like. But people need to be aware that you’re not going to find modern hotel amenities (in your room) and the rooms are small.
I love staying at historic properties and this Lodge - dating back to 1937 - is a real gem. It’s full of history including amazing works of art dating back to the Work Progress Administration. And on a clear Day you can reach out and touch the top of Mount Hood since you’re already at the 6000 foot level.

United StatesI think the menu and pricing of food and drink needs tweaking. The food I had was good but expensive. I think with a some creative input, the offerings could bring in much more attention and business. I'd love to bring friends to dinner in the upstairs restaurant and bar area but the menu needs to be more exciting for the cost. Also, please crank the heat in the hot tub so jumping in the pool after makes more sense!
The building structure, history, is very historically beautiful. The setting is outstanding. I like the mood of the bar area, and sitting with a view.

United StatesI know it’s a remote, old/historic hotel with high operating and maintenance costs, but a super basic room with a creaky bed is NOT worth $400/night -- during the week, that is! Costs even more on weekends. We were also jarred awake around 4am to the backup beeping of a snowplow/tractor outside, which continued nonstop all morning clearing the parking lot. I know that’s a necessity, but still obnoxious. Lastly, the main dining room’s breakfast buffet is extremely disappointing - $29.50 per person for barely a step above what you’d get free/included at a Holiday Inn express.
Wonderful location, beautiful setting, and steeped in history. A place I’ve visited on day trips countless times but finally stayed overnight. Always enjoy seeing FDR’s chair and the other historic displays, plus the amazing craftsmanship of depression-era WPA workers who built the lodge. Best part was hanging out by the massive, multi-story, super cool three-sided fireplace in the evening after the day crowds departed.

United StatesThe cake for the St. Bernard’s birthday celebration ( Heidi) was fantastic but it could have been more festive if a big sign had been made (e.g. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEIDI!) and maybe a few balloons put out. The event was slated for 1:00-2:00. By 2:30 there was no cake left, no dog and no sign there had been an event except used dishes and a water dispenser ( which was nice).
We loved being at Timberline Lodge for our 1-night stay! It looked great and tidy, as usual. Our meal in the lobby bar was very good ( salmon, squash soup, beef stew) and the expensive breakfast was worth the $30.00. Really yummy including a great latte. Our room, 105, was really nice. Nice front desk staff ( actually they could have been a little more excited in their greeting skills…).

United StatesSo noisy. It's an old, historic building, so that's understandable, but fellow guests were incredibly thoughtless, yakking it up in the halls and adjacent rooms all night. Make sure you ask NOT to be placed in Chalet 4, which is adjacent to the gym; staff does not enforce quiet hours there, and the equipment is super-loud.

United Statesneeds freshening up. looking tired - restaurant options were polarized. the main restaurant was too expensive for the quality, and the base restaurant was uninspiring. Rooms need a better way to cool down. it was too hot to sleep. The exterior construction really impacted the ability to enjoy the outside of the property. In the end, the rate was not a good value.
