How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

It's in a rainforest, so it rained frequently. That is okay though, as the cabin was very cozy. Also it is a long distance to Kona, so we only spent one day there.
We loved everything about this cabin! It totally exceeded our expectations. The pictures don't do it justice. It is so secluded and private in the rainforest. It is very quiet at night. We experienced our first earthquake ever there. Sue came running over immediately to check on us and assure us that everything was going to be okay. Our daughter loved sleeping in her own loft upstairs and we felt the bed was very comfortable with even a bed warmer under the sheets. They thought of everything there! It is also very close to Volcanoes National Park. Convenient location to Hilo as well. We would definitely stay there again if we were to ever come back to the Big Island.

Host met us on arrival and settled us into the house which was surrounded by rainforest. Coffee,tea, and local handmade chocolate with booklets of suggestions for dining and exploring. Susan pleasantly answered our questions and had umbrellas hanging on the covered porch which came in handy visiting Volcanoes National Park which is only 10 minutes away.

How short the stay was
We loved our time here. The attention to detail and comfort was so felt and appreciated. Staying here was a highlight of getaway. And feel we we really made the most of being here. We loved the care and intention put into this home away from home. We live close by and are very much looking forward to getting cozy again here soon. Much love and Aloha Mahalo!

Excellent host met us and reviewed guidelines and recommendations for stay. Beautiful property and area with many wild orchids. Got up and ran a few miles the next morning - a few unhappy dogs nearby but they were all leashed up.

Bathroom had limited towel bar space but we were able to use hooks to hang them. A few more hooks would've been helpful. Also could've used a few more hangers in the closet.
Great location very close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The cottage was adorable and very clean. Comfortable bed and nice kitchen area with full size fridge and lots of amenities. We met our hosts and they were both nice and helpful.

Sue welcomed us when we arrived and introduced everything to us. We feel we are coming to home. The cottage is located 5 miles outside of the park and has everything you need, like kitchen, fridge, kettle... The kids loves the loft and enjoyed playing guitar overthere. We will come back if we visit the big island again.

About 12 minutes away from Volcano National Park yet far enough from the traffic and noise. I couldn't have asked for a better location. Friendly owner on site if you need anything. Everything was provided in the home down to ear plugs to block out the frogs, but we actually found the frogs relaxing.

Amazing. Really cosy cottage with all the facilities, clean, close to the volcano park, super friendly and with a lot of tips. Also great with kids as there is a playing room. Definitely a place to go.

The sink in the bathroom is a bit small.
The environmental is beautiful. It is a gem in the forest. The cottage has everything we needed. The owners are friendly and helpful.
