Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe valet parking we used was quite expensive. However, they did bring the car around quickly and it was very convenient to leave the car at the curb when we arrived. I loved the old elevator, but the door is a little hard to open and the gate slams shut rather quickly. This is a very very minor item.
The location of the property is wonderful -- it is close to Nob Hill and near public transportation. We walked, drove our car, and took the bus during our stay -- it was all quite easy (we were visiting over Memorial Day weekend and traffic was lighter than usual). The hotel is fun -- lots of florals and 1960's op art on the wall -- with a nice breakfast area. It's more than a continental breakfast as there are breads and cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries, and hard cooked eggs when we visited. The staff was friendly. The room had a separate dressing area and a working fireplace. The bed was too soft for me, but I require a very firm bed. My husband and I were very pleased with the room, location, and service.

CanadaLarge, spacious, and comfortable room. Loved the gas fireplace and bay windows. Tons of space, felt like staying in a Victorian-era character home. The windows were triple pane, so despite being on 2nd floor facing main road, it was quiet. I did not hear any traffic or screaming. This appears to be on the edge of the tenderloin. We were surprised not to see much social unrest / failure. Pretty safe and perfect location being downtown. A walk skip and a jump to the JW Marriot, Apple Store, and all the trams. Ooh, loved the wine and cheese hours.

AustraliaDidn't like the few stairs at the front door!
It is a great little hotel. Loved the ancient lift and colourful wallpapers. It's stepping back in time but with comfort. Happy hour of wine n nibbles at 5 was an added bonus. Close to union square and hop on hop of bus (which is excellent). You won't be disappointed AND an adequate breaky in the lounge in the morning was basic but good.

United StatesOur room was above a pizza palor and the noise from below carried into our room. Normally this would not have mattered, but I was trying to go to bed early due to the fact that I was running a 15K the next morning.
Wine reception daily from 5pm - 6:30pm. Microwave, fridge and fireplace in rooms. Separate vanity area to get dressed and ready for the day. Walking distance to local eatery and bodegas. Only hotel guests and staff can enter the hotel. Valet service offered was amazing. Cody, the front desk concierge, was warm, charming and welcoming. Francisco, our wait staff during the wine recpetion, was personable, witty and entertaining. A wonderful gem of a hotel!!

United StatesOur room just had windows right onto the courtyard and other windows, so there's not a view or much privacy, and it's better just to keep curtains/blinds over the windows.
The wine/cheese hour and breakfast are both generous, and the breakfast offers a good deal of variety and delicious, fresh pastries. The room is spacious and incredibly comfortable, and having a deep bathtub as well as a shower is unusual for anything at this price point. The fireplace was also a luxury that we fully enjoyed while there.

AustraliaI understood the rooms might be a bit old (hotel is over 100yrs old), however value for money took precedence.
The hotel is situated in an excellent position and very good value for money. Our room was huge and had everything we needed. I chose it for room size and value for money. I had both. Modern hotels have tiny rooms and not necessarily value for money. Breakfast was excellent as was the glass of wine and cheese in the afternoon. Staff were the best and catered for my coeliac needs. Met lots of really nice people from all over the world. Highly recommend.

UkraineNot enough light in the room in the evening. It looks romantic with fireplace, but would appreciate more lamps.
The interior is truly unique, especially the old elevator and the place to sit and relax downstairs, with tea/coffee any time. All personnel were nice and accommodating. Breakfast was good, the room was clean and mattress was comfortable too. The hotel also provided pack-and-play for our toddler daughter for extra fee. We definitely enjoyed and will be coming back!

ChinaWasn't a big fan of the bed, mattress didn't quite have enough support.
Quite a lovely cozy British style inn. A gem find in the heart of San Francisco. The staff is very friendly, and the inn has a large common area that is quite comfortable to work/relax in, complete with couches and fireplaces, and there is a happy hour with wine and cheese. Free coffee and a variety of tea is available all day. The room itself has decent noise insulation.
