How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The property was very nice and neat, but it just lacked more of the kitchen facilities, had to go and borrow a greater from next door neighbors, There were not enough casserole dish only one.

The place did not have a sea view. When we got there the internet which was advertised was not working. They did come to help us get a connection, but it was so slow that we could not watch a movie at all.
It was close to the river mouth and beach The host was very friendly and super helpful. .

No sea view. No seating on patio upstairs, or downstairs. Wifi didn't work inside apartment.
Spacious apartment. BBQ outside. 2 minute walk to the beach. Large dining table. Guest toilet in addition to shared bathroom for 2 bedrooms.

Didn't like the quality of the railing for the steps, someone held onto it for support and just snapped in her hand. Railings should be there for support.
Loved the fresh, clean amenities. The view is immaculate.

There was no reception office this made life difficult because we had to text and wait a while to get response and on the day of departure I contacted the contact person in time to tell them we are checking out at 9 so could they come collect the keys and return the deposit. No one came, had to walk around looking for someone who works there to get assistance. I ended to missing my flight because I got there after border were closed. Charged us cleaning fee yet there was no cleaning, just makes no sense.

Never met any booking agent, place dirty - I showed the lady who did the exit inspection. Rain poured through main bedroom window and doors. I had to put towels to absorb the water. Candles, but no candel holders. No proper lights during loadshedding. Braai, but no braai tools or are we supposed to fly it in from JHB? Bin outside one third full of water on arrival. Guest bathroom window cannot close - the wood is so rotten, you can do nothing with it. I made it clear that I need to work while I was there. I saw on the reviews that WiFi was poor, but it did not work at all. I fell off the stairs the first night of arrival during loadshedding - what about re-chargable lights to make your guests more comfortable? Cockraches are everywhere. No, seriously, never again.

Unit was very cheaply and sparingly furnished. More useful utensils needed in the kitchen. Light fittings had space for two bulbs, only one fitted making the unit a dark hole. Most of the inside doors are busy pulling apart.(de-laminating) Shower had no place to put your soap, face cloth and shampoo. No hook near for a towel and new dress of clothes Towels were small and thin, thus soaked once you were halfway dried. We used the bath only. Every time you ran a bath, the earth-leakage would trip. After running the water you were able to reset it. Some of the wooden window frames were in such a neglected condition that if you try to close the window the handle came off. It caused the one window to open itself during windy conditions. We relied on the wi-fi as cellphone reception is extremely poor in that area. Wi-fi was slow and off for long periods. Re-booting the router sometimes helped. Outside rubbish bin's lid was full of holes causing it to fill with water when it rained. Pegs are left outside on the washing line. They were covered in mold rendering then useless.
Close to the beach. Unit was located at the back, away from the noisy parking/picnic areas. Under cover parking. Very effective extractor in the bathroom.
