How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

A very nice short stay stay at Aloes. The playground was fantastic for our kids, with a mini zip line, trampolines and many other features to keep them happy. The food was also great. We had a chicken burger, a chilli burger and a pizza and they were all super tasty, with great service thrown in. The views of the river and the surrounding mountains are also pretty awesome.

Truck noise (road noise) is a bit much but bearable.
Great stopover on the way to the Kruger or Moz. Nice pub with good food. Burgers are really good. Staff and owner went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

Most staff are friendly except for the one woman who took our food order. She was rude, impatient and looked irritated. She was also like that towards the lady working behind the bar.
Beautiful and neat accommodation. Love the scenery. Great location. Loved the dogs.

There wasn't any wifi.
The room was spacious, quiet and near the river. Lovely gardens. Nice outdoor restaurant area for eating. The pizzas were very good. The breakfasts were also great. Sitting on the balcony with the river flowing nearby was very relaxing. Friendly staff.

Beds were not comfortable at all and linen is rather old and in need of replacement. (Was however very clean). Pub allows smoking inside which was not great! Had to eat outside in the rather chilly breeze.
Location is excellent. Good food at the pub.

There were no dishcloth, in the kitchen, no soap in bathroom, no wineglasses and braai utensils (although staff fetch some when we asked)
Wonderful location next to mountain stream with view of the mountain. Beautifull views and great playground for kids

Everyone walked through my veranda - including the staff. If the gates are closed between the verandas, they are just opened again. The verandas are small, so people are in your face while they enter your space and they have no respect for your privacy. All the rooms have stairs so it is not necessary to walk through the verandas. This is rude! You can’t leave anything outside without supervision due to all the traffic. They even carried extra mattresses through my veranda for the people next to me while I was sitting there and this only stopped after I complained about it. The neighbours were shouting and were very noisy until 1:30 in the morning. The owner asked them to be quiet but that only lasted for a while. They started again at 8 o’clock in the morning with their shouting and screaming and I had to pack up and leave earlier as planned due to this. As a frequent traveler, this is the worst experience I have ever had at my overnight accommodation. The owner offered to find other accommodation after I complained about the inconsiderate staff and the noisy people next to me. But it is inconvenient to pack up everything at 7 o'clock in the evening and to check in at another place due to issues from their side. I am also not familier with the area and do not travel at night time as I am a solo traveller. And why do I have to leave when I am not the problem? Other issues with the accommodation: 1. They do not have an emergency light in the room for guests when it is loadshedding. 2. No dustbin except for the small dustbin in the bathroom. The rooms are not bad and the view of the river is nice but unfortunately this does not help when you have a nightmare experience with the surroundings. I will definately not recommend this place to people looking for a peaceful stay and privacy.

Right by the river nice location very clean .they gave up me s lift when my driver did not turn up for me so i would not miss my shuttle bus
