My light at the bed didn't have a switch😐😐 so I had to use my phones flashlight instead

I liked the fact that everything felt so home-y and comfy with a nice place to chill and just relax

Toilet not cleaned as often as needed.

It is my third time, and it has quietened a lot since my first stay many years ago with the removal of the downstairs bar. Right now it is a cozy and comfortable lodge with full of character.

A group of young people (male) taking over the pool area. I had to go and relax elsewhere. Not serious but a bit annoying.

The location for CTCTour. Clean and friendly staff. Will come again next year for the cycle tour.!

The private rooms at the pool are hot so you need to keep your windows open, people will be making noise at the pool so bring good earplugs or stay at a dorm. An extra fan for this heat (January) would be nice. Someone had been smoking in our room so, yuk. Also the carpet really needs replacing, it smelled so bad xD. One of the ladies that served breakfast (when there was no buffet) seemed quite cranky so we were scared to ask her anything haha.

Really nice hostel, great that it has a pool. The beds in the private rooms were really good, finally some good nights sleep. The breakfast buffet is really nice. It's possible to walk safely during the day from the location to the popular Kloof Street (try take bigger roads) and/or Long Street. Otherwise take an Uber, definitely after sunset. Parking in the street is free, but be sure to park your car with the nose in the right direction, we got a fine for having the car the other way around lol.

Rooms close to the pool have thin doors / windows so noise from outside can be bothering.

Location in Gardens is good. Friendly stuff at reception. Sanitary and showers in good condition and clean.

The hostel reflects the present state of affairs in South Africa (considering it's history) and the "integration" problems that it has at the moment. Also, there was this long-staying old guy at the hostel, who took it for granted, shouted at me and insisted on listening to what/when he says (after I just tried to be friendly & say 'Hello' to him). He backed-off only after I said that I am an engineer who has worked and is working for reputed organizations and that I am just traveling there, just like I travel to other parts of the world. And on one evening, I arrived late and the "PIN" that was given to me did not work to open the front gate (as they changed it). So, as I was struggling to get in, there was this young "European-African" guy (who works there) sitting there, but did not even bother/worry to help me out. It is understandable if I was a stranger, but he saw me "checking-in". Update: I had a good stay at the hostel, just that I had 2 unpleasant experiences as mentioned above. But considering that they are not directly related to the Hostel or the people working there, I wanted to update this review. Also, I guess it takes time for SA to heal. So, hope things will change and all the people (irrespective of their backgrounds) get along and make SA a great country!

The hostel is very close to the Kloof street and offers minimally everything that you need. The people at the reception were friendly and helped me organize all the tours that I wanted to do.

Not enough seating out the back for eating from the kitchen and nowhere to really chill and relax indoors.

Fantastic location in a beautiful old house. Huge locker cages under the bed in the dorm and decent bunk beds with curtains. Hot showers and strong wifi throughout property.

Loved our stay here. It felt like home and was the perfect base from which to explore Cape Town. The bar/ pub, pool, and gardens were a great addition and the overall atmosphere of the place was warm and welcoming.

Some areas feel very squashed and compact, like around the pool and kitchen. Not a huge amount of sitting areas if it were to be busy in the summer.

Nice garden areas to sit in, close to main shopping and eating streets, but far enough away to keep out of the riff raff. Cheap laundry. Clean facilities. Extended my stay.

The room was cold 😩 even though the heater was switched on most of the time. It may be because cape Town is a chilly place and the ceiling is high.

It's just right behind table Mountain. The place is a street away from long street. The area is safe. It's just beautiful. Nezisa is an amazing caretaker.

it’s not specifically about the property, but be sure to be home when it gets dark as there are mobs around the streets.

very clean bathrooms and showers, kitchen was well equipped with 2 fridges to make use of. rooms were clean and had lockers under the bed to fit the backpack in, also had a safe for each bed in the dorm. not far to mall and to a good restaurant street.

If you arrive late, please make sure to announce it more than once. When we arrived the hostel was closed and there was no staff around. The phone number specified didn't pick up. If we hadn't known people who stayed at Ashanti it would have been impossible for us to get in and get our room.

We had a very nice stay at Ashanti. Just staying in the building itself was a highlight with pool, community balconies and space to braai. During our stay it was also kept very clean. Location was also good, we could get everywhere we wanted very easily and with a view of the table mountain. We also hung out there a bit, as the bar was decent and cheap. It's also a good place if you want to get to know people, everyone was open to share experiences. We booked a private double room facing the pool which was nice, decent size and it even had a sink.

The noise at night. Had a room near the swimming pool, and constant chatter late at night (2am sometimes) and starting 7 am makes it difficult to get a good night's sleep.

The bathrooms are cleaned every morning. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. The neighborhood is walkable, restaurants and grocery stores very close. The staff are super friendly. Arrangement in room with a safe and a sink is very functional.

Rooms towards the pool can be loud. During my first two nights people were partying at the pool until late at night. A blouse I gave to the external laundry service got lost, however Ashanti organized a refund.

I loved the house and the facilities (garden, pool and balconies) and the view of the mountain. The location is great, Kloof Street with restaurants & cafés, supermarkets is just around the corner, you can walk into the city center. I arrived on an early morning flight and really appreciated not having to wait until the afternoon for check-in (Thanks again)!!
