How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The water in the shower takes a while before becoming hot in room 414, 2 rooms the TV couldn't work, the dustbin lid in the kitchen was not cleaned.The gate remote didn't work sometimes.

I didn't like the one we were placed at, there were ladies and Gents making noise upon arrival and it's not to the normal standard I am used to

The room that we booked through booking.com was supposed to have a balcony, king-size bed and a bathroom. The room that Balmoral Lodge gave us looked like a horse stable with a double bed, bathroom, and no windows. After complaining, they moved us to what we originally booked.

There was too muchnoise from other guests because they were drinking thus strict rules must be in place to minimize such incidemce

The bathroom's mirror and shower doors need attention. Other than that, no probs.
I liked the "private mini apartment" vibe. Did not hear any other guests. Was quiet and we felt safe. Liked the coffee station (especially the 5L bottled water!! - great work guys!). Aircon worked great. No loadshedding due to off grid system.

I just want you to let us know that you guys don't give plates and pots so that when we come we bring our own stuff.

We were not informed early of different venue change. We were told that breakfast at the venue we were at is not serve and have to be transported to to a different venue. This could add an inconvinience especially if not informed early.
The stuff are friendly. The rooms are clean

The balcony was dirty, with empty take away boxes on the table. That's about it, the rest is positive. The entry gates are confusing as the GPS takes you to the top gate which is not the correct entrance. We had to phone reception to open the (wrong) gate.
Aircon in the room, spacious and clean, nice shower. Swimming pool and cash bar. Friendly staff and nice vibe. Beautiful paintings in the foyer. They organized a third bed in the room without additional cost. Quiet surroundings and no street noise. I would definitely recommend this place!

A lot of afternoon noise in the public areas outside our door kept us up from our afternoon nap. A combination of staff and guests made the noise.

The lodge is split up from the main entrance and reception area, so it’s apart from the pool and bar area but other than that it was a great stay!

I did not like book8ng.com. i was extreemly clear when I booked that beakfast should be included. When I checked out it was not and what an embarresment infront of my collective when I had to be told no I owed more money. As if i tried to get away without paying. I will not use this app again., and tell others also. I was very clear from the beginning. B&B! I even bragged about how good booking.com was. I was embaresed.

Arriving in the evening, I was hoping to have a light meal at the property or to be able to walk to a restaurant nearby (walking distance) but no food was available and no grocery store or restaurant was located at a walking distance ... The only option was ordering junk food delivery ...
Very nice breakfast buffet and friendly personnel. Perfect as I was ready for a nice breakfast after skipping dinner the night before (see next comment about lack of food options in the evening.
