Brief stay over, clean and comfortable and well located.

The one room was great. Our room (my husband and I) was okay. The bed was comfortable, but the one side I think had a spring loose and was very noisy every time you moved. We did not have a kettle or any coffee or tea. We also did not have drinking glasses to have water. Unfortunately it not have a shower. Our stay was very brief so we were unable to rectify the problems that we had.

We came to Howick for a funeral, and they kindly let us book in early. One room was ready but not the other, but we got our key anyway. The rooms we clean and comfortable. And the staff we encountered briefly were friendly.

The reception staff were not particularly motivated or helpful. I had to go to reception to ask for toilet paper If one wanted filter coffee with breakfast, one would have to pay extra. The only red wine available at dinner was from a box (Robertson dry red).

The restaurant staff tried their best, but with clearly limited training and experience. The room was clean.

We stayed in the rondavel it does not look like in the pictures at all. It says self catering with a stove and oven but there was only a microwave. There were no electric blankets as stated. The whole place looks like it needs a revamp looking very old and disheveled.

    Friendly staff and good location.

Being called by Biggy Best management a week before my stay to advise me that my booking had been moved to the Fernhill Hotel, which I refused to accept. If I’d wanted to stay at the Fernhill Hotel, I would have booked there? I’ve used Booking.com to book accommodation around the world and this is the first time that something like this has happened to me?

    Location and comfortable room.

We had a noisy guest next door so very little sound proofing. There were no clean towels in the room when i wanted to shower at 1 before going to our function.

The cooked breakfast was good but would have liked a healthier option as well. The trees and the location was very pretty. The receptionist was very friendly.

No shower, only a large jacuzzi bath that took forever to fill. The jacuzzi didn't work. The whole time I was awake and at the cottage there was load shedding. There was no candle or battery lamp in the bathroom for load shedding.

We did not realise that we would be in the Hayloft and would have preferred a room on the ground floor as we are in our 70s (my daughter, aged 45 was with us) as it was not easy to climb the stairs to the Hayloft. The light outside the room at the stairs did not work making it a bit more tricky at night. We would also have preferred a shower (also because of our age) as it becomes dangerous to get in and out of the bath at our age. I should have mentioned that when I booked but unfortunately did not.

Breakfast was good and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The location is very good as we travelled to attend the Midmar Mile and it is only a short drive away.

The room was not fitted out properly for 3 Adult woman - as the bunk bed was dismantled and was rather uncomfortable, also no side tables or lamps, or a fan until we requested these items, which was brought to us by your friendly staff. The bath was totally unacceptable as it was a danger with no handles and no nonslip mat on the rusted bath. The shower consisted of a hand held shower which was not easily able to be used. We were supplied with 1 bottle of shampoo/1 shower gel and 1 toilet roll. Obviously there is a problem with the Management as they were nowhere to be seen, and obviously not checking that the rooms were not up to standard.

The only good part of our stay was the well organised restaurant for the breakfast and friendly staff there.

The accommodation is aged and in need of repair. The bathroom tops are made of plywood that is burnt, peeling and bubbled from water ingress. It cannot be hygienic due to age; carpets need deep cleaning and the blanket had BO. The rainwater runoff runs right past the main entrance causing a mud-bath. The car park is against the dormitory so early leavers wake you up. The staff did not once make contact or enquire about our wellbeing - I suspect that I now know why. I would be more discerning about the Booking reviews in future!

We needed to be close to Amber Glades retirement homes and this was in good proximity of that
