How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Can get noisy at night as the rooms are close to each other and walls are thin, but guests are all very quiet and respectful of this. You can get a great night sleep irrespective as we did!
The location of Center Ville is perfect, a short walk from the main shops and Franshhoek wine tram stop. Very quaint and well thought out accommodation! Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly!

What a fabulous place! Great location, very comfortable and spacious room, delicious breakfasts served in the nice garden and very helpful and friendly hosts and stuff. I couldn't imagine better place to stay!

The rooms are furnished with love, but are a bit outdated.
Elsa and Jaco are the most welcoming hosts! The breakfast in the garden was well arranged and freshly prepared. The location is perfect to stay in Franschhoek and to experience the ambiences.

Guest House i s centrally located within walking distance to all amenities. Rooms are beautiful and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Elsa and Jaco are amazing hosts. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this guesthouse.

Perfect location for a visit to the winelands. Lovely traditional house with furnishings to compliment the era . Very friendly hosts and a delicious breakfast , served in shaded garden area . Very enjoyable.

The owners and staff were very friendly. The breakfast was good. I had a good sized room with good bathroom. The location was easy walking distance from the main street, which is what I was looking for. All went well.

We booked the accommodation because of the many good reviews and were not disappointed. Although at the time of our arrival Franschoek was hit by a violent storm plus floot and we had neither electricity nor water for nearly two days, we enjoyed our stay very much. The two hosts took loving care of us and did everything or even more to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We felt at home. We will definately come back...

Everything was great
A wonderful hotel and very friendly and attentive hosts who always go above and beyond. We had a very beautiful and clean room, all the interior design elements were well chosen. The entire interior of the hotel well conveys the atmosphere of the city of Franschhoek. The hotel is well located. If there are not enough spaces on site, there is free convenient parking very close. The breakfast is amazing, very tasty and beautifully presented.

I had a wonderful stay at Centre Ville. The location is perfect, beds are comfy, the breakfast is tasty but the thing that struck me most was the amazing hospitality of the owners. I was there during the floods in Franschoek end of September. Nobody could go in or out of Franschoek, stores and restaurants were closed, there was no electricity or running water... Even in these circumstances Jaco and Elsa went out of their way to take care of all their guests. Keeping the fireplace burning, making sure we were warm, dry and fed. They even prepared lunch and dinner for everybody! They even provided hot meals and drinks for people in the community and other guesthouses that had been flooded. I had an absolutely amazing time and will definitely come back!

As our room was a built out loft one at times has to be careful not to bump one,s head. Bathroom only seperated by drywalls and door from bedroom.
Hosts were exceptional, good advice on unusual local attractions eg coffee shops and restaurants. Exceptional breakfast and sevice, perfect bed/bedding, warm ambiance and airconditioning and lots of hot water for tub/shower. Little treats in room, sherry, bottle of wine and real capsule coffee machine. Very close to all attractions.
