Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThe guest house is in the process of closing down and we were not advised of this when booking. The game farm is no longer there and there are major land works in progress, neither of which were advised of. One of the major attractions for us of Chamonix no longer exists, and we only found out when we drove through the property.
The tranquility of the place and the friendliness of the staff.

The views are amazing. The staff was great. Had an issue with the aircon in our chalet and when it could not be resolved we were moved to a room that had one which worked. The ambiance was also great.

BelgiumThe property is fully under reconstruction. This is indeed mentioned in the Booking page, however, we didn't expect so many works on the road to reach the lodge. Very bumpy and risky at night, as there is no lighting. The signage is also poor, we got lost a couple times. You will also need a car to reach the main building, where breakfast is served.
We spent 2 nights at the "Leopard lodge", by the lake, and we are happy with our choice! Our apartment was on the first floor and was big and bright, the furniture was very typical and original. Fully immersed in the South African vibe. The terrace has view on the lake, the mountains behind, just great. Everything was very clean. The car can be parked just outside the lodge, for free of course.

South AfricaThe breakfast was certainly not upto standard - albeit that the cooked breakfast was well done - the rest could have been better . Whilst we understand that we stayed there during a transition phase - the main lodge and rooms seem to be lacking in maintenance upkeep - that being said the staff and view made up for everything 👏👏
The location is incredible as with the views . The staff were amazing - the best we have encountered 👏👏

United KingdomIt's badly in need of renovation and the place just seems really old fashioned and tired. Also, while the views are amazing, it's a lot further out of town than we were expecting and Ubers in the evening are impossible to find, so be prepared for that. The staff finish at 6pm every day, so in the evening it feels like you're really isolated in a huge, dark old house at the top of the hill, which felt a bit weird at times.
The view from the property is stunning, and the staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. Also a huge comfy bed.

United KingdomThere were only a few minor snags that were addressed by the staff as timeously as possible. The solar light around braai area wasn't working so couldn't be used at night so staff provided a standalone BBQ. WiFi dropped off occasionally Probably as most guests eat out but oven grill not fully functioning and pots were not big enough for making breakfast for our party of 5. When flagged, we were provided extra pan and the staff attended quickly to check and assist as best as they could. Minor little defects that will be easily fixed I'm sure but didn't detract much from our stay.
Brywell, the member of staff who checked us in, was incredibly friendly and helpful to sort minor issues Loved having a generator to avoid load shedding darkness 2 bathrooms Basic yet comfy and roomy little building, with incredible views of the mountains Short distance from the main road for amenities The Arkhest restaurant was delightful

United Kingdomit has obviously been quite damaged in the flood and was very much and working progress. The road is very bad. There are no toilets near the swimming pool or if you have breakfast. Which means you’ve got to get in the car and drive back to our accommodation. The bad by the pool were very old and torn cushions. It was a little bit rundown.
we were in a lake house suite which was beautiful. It was the only ones open as the others had been closed due to a flood.

South AfricaPricey for the quality of the accommodation. Cottage and facilities are all a bit tired and in need of a revamp. Kitchen inadequately equipped. Weber braai is old and not in good repair/suitable for barbecues (fire hazard).
Self catering cottage on the Chamonix Lodge estate. Prettily perched above the main lodge with access to the main homestead and swimming pool below the main lodge. Recently re-thatched with spacious air-conditioned bedroom studio, en-suite bathroom, basic kitchenette, beautiful dining room table and 2 chairs.

United KingdomThe state of the drive way from the gate to the main house was very poor at one spot, though they had done their best to make it passable after severe floods last year. I expect it will soon properly repaired.
The stay as a whole went very well. Breakfast was good and the restaurant is superb BUT it is essential to reserve a table in advance, there being no particular access available for residents.

Lovely setting great staff room very Big and comfortable . Unfortunately air con did not work properly and was very hot overnight . Unfortunately the building is not being maintained in a few places as it is going to be redeveloped and they are running it down .this reflected in pool furniture .you will need a car there as the restaurant is approx 2 kms down the road and you do have to pre book the food is amazing .

United KingdomThe room itself was incredible! A real safari experience - HA! We felt like we were in the Masai Mara again. Comfy Bed, great facilities and air con. The shower in our room was a handheld one in a bath, so that could have been better! The breakfast buffet section was ok but the staff made a great custom cooked breakfast and were super lovely ***** The wine estate main building was fab and it had a swimming pool for guests to use. The Vineyards in front of the main building were somewhat neglected and looked like they needed some TLC... it would have been the icing on the cake to have had that beautiful view but beyond that were incredible views of Franschoek. You defiantly need a car to get in and out and to your accommodation and to and from breakfast, although we walked 5min to the main house from our accommodation.

South AfricaOur aircon only worked the first day of our stay and after various requests to have it sorted it did not work again for the rest of our stay. We also did not have warm water for at least two days of our stay and once it was restored the water was only slightly warm, we also reported this but it stayed the same for the rest of our stay.
Our stay was fantastic, view awsome and the staff was great.

United KingdomBe warned that there is taxidermy in the rooms so if this isn't your thing then perhaps it isn't for you. The lodge is a little way from the main road so you can't really walk to/from it. The road to the lodge is a little rustic too, and we were told ubers weren't always willing to come in, so it did leave us feeling a bit trapped. Having said that, the staff were lovely and are able to organise taxis for you, and they even helped to drop us off at the gate saving us a long walk, so that was useful. If they were able to formalise this service and offer trips to/from the main gate (or a shuttle service?) then this would be perfect.
The room we stayed in was in an old guest lodge, not the main house, and it was lovely! So spacious and really stylised. Beautiful views, and really quiet. We felt like we were really getting into nature and had the space to relax and unwind. The breakfast is in the main lodge (we had to drive there) and was really delicious, and the pool looked lovely (though it was too cold to swim for us!). All in all a really special location.
