How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The name. I didn’t know it existed and thought I’d booked into the City Lodge O R Tambo for my early morning flight. Both have airport names which is crazy. It’s actually 5km away with no shuttle, so it cost me 200R to get there (evening) and 100R to get back. The staff at both hotels though were helpful at sorting this, but it was clear this mistake happens quite frequently.
Although the older of the two airport City Lodges, it’s been renovated and across looks newer than the City Lodge O R Tambo. With less foot traffic too, being much smaller, it is less frenetic, more peaceful.

The access cards don't always work on the room door electronic locks.

All good for me.
The hotel was perfect for me considering the location. Parking was easy and always available. The staff were all excellent and always helpful. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in Joburg.

Thew was something rwong with the dards that we were given to open our rooms. I was not the only person that struggled with those cards. I never met a situation like that.
I did not have breakfask as it was available the venue where we were attending the conference. I liked the interior decor. and the staff friendliness.

There was a very small gym - the treadmill worked, but nothing else.
Small pool and comfortable patio area. Some other airport hotels had closed the pool area. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The property made a mistake of taking my money twice and they wanted to make it as if it was my mistake. After challenging that they then ask for apology and promise to return my money on Monday. It's Wednesday today and I still did get my money. Booking.com please help me to receive my refund

A change of breakfast would be nice. We had the exact same breakfast for the whole week. The bed was not very comfortable I woke up tired everyday
Overall we had a good stay. They had nice buffet oftions and the staff was friendly. The rooms were clean and fresh.

The breakfast cost is outrageous. I was forced to eat there this time but not again - a minor matter. The diner was pathetic. Absolutely embarrassing. The waitress took more than 30 minutes to serve 1 x beer and 1 x bottle wine. The wine arrived and it was wrong taking another 10 minutes to correct. The meal took much longer. I requested a medium burger patty. It arrived; it was extra super well done with the consistency of a leather sole. Horrible. I would suggest that you employ a proper restaurant manager that has his customers well-being as a priority.
The reservation desk, rooms, gym etc were all great as usual. I am quite happy to return for another stay.

Selection of whiskey was very limited. Would have preferred one or two top shelf whiskeys, the likes of Glenfiddic or Chivas.

The wash basin in the bathroom felt a bit poky, especially for shaving. I would prefer white lighting in the bathroom, especially for persons like myself who don't have the best eyesight.
The service received from Zama at the restaurant was exceptional
