We love the rustic, peaceful nature of Sodwana Bay Lodge, as well as the views onto Isimangaliso.

Our oven didn't work very well. The top step up to the loft was missing so there was a bit of a scary, big gap between the landing and first (second) stair from the top. The tap at the kitchen sink was lose so a bit difficult to use.

We love the location, the balconies looking into the Isimangaliso wild, and we love the quiet. Our stovetop was great. Ample fridge and freezer space. The bed linen is fabulous, beds comfy and staff, super friendly and happy. Towels refreshed daily which is great. Staff do everything possible to make your stay the best it can be. Love the outdoor shower and good supply of hot water.

Being wooden, the chalets are a bit noisy

The peaceful treetops you look over from the chalets. The kids loved the pool.

TV channels are limited & don't work very well. The bathroom is very dated. I wish there were self-catering units for just 2 people.

The self-catering chalets are very comfortable. Love the outside shower. Love all the wildlife roaming past the chalet. Felt very safe & secure. Cleaning staff do a great job.

The bathrooms need upgrading and the double bed was not very comfortable. Took time to get used to the squeaky wooden stairs and floors at night.

The place was quiet, clean, loved the trees and animals at the lodge. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was good. It was easy to book the water activities.

We didn't realise from the photographs that the second bedroom is a loft bedroom, which wasn't ideal for us with a baby. The bathroom could have been cleaner.

Comfortable chalet with well-fitted and equipped kitchen. Gas braai was very easy to use and our view of the forest was sensational. Wildlife was incredible.

The lodge correctly advised that a 4 x 4 is not needed on the route to the property. This is true if your route is on the R22 and N2 which are good roads, We used a 'short cut' from the N2 through Phongolo as advised by google maps. This included poor sand and gravel sections of road which could be difficult in poor weather. Unless you have a 4 X 4 then take our advise and use the R22 even if its a bit longer!

Well laid out nice property and we were pleased with an unexpected upgrade. Good restaurant on site with reasonable prices and selection. Good security and entry control.

The previous tenants lost the key and we used the spare key which did not lock the door from the inside. We had to walk out the back door every night and morning to lock and unlock the front door from the outside with the spare key. It was not a huge problem though, just slightly inconvenient. What was a huge problem though is the fact that a big part of the granite top that was stuck against the wall above the stove randomly fell off the wall early one morning while the kids were still sleeping and I was standing in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil. Fortunately it did not fall on me, it would have broken my foot if it did, it fell against the stove and the broke the tiles on the floor. It was so heavy that my husband and I could not even move it together. Had it fallen on my 2 year old daughter she would have been seriously hurt. It was only stuck to the wall with double sided tape and it was meant to look nice and act as a splash back behind the stove. It is not what granite tops are meant for and was definitely not safe to put there. Fortunately nobody got hurt, we just all got a very big fright and reception quickly sent a handy man to remove the granite from the floor. It could have turned out differently though and I felt uneasy after the event.

We always stay at Sodwana Bay Lodge because we know what we are going to get for the price we pay and its safe and not to far from the beach. The quality is always the same

Check-in is too late for scuba divers who must leave their food in the car while scuba diving, waiting for 15:00. Check-out is too early for scuba divers who must dive first and then get back to the chalet in time to shower pack and leave on time!

Friendly and helpful receptionist. Clean and comfortable chalets. Enough cutlery & crockery. Excellent location to reach your vehicle and log scuba diving gear around.

Interior requires refurbishment. Bath in main bedroom is obsolete, oven has no markings so difficult to use, outside has no light or clothes hooks thus difficult to use at night, difficulty with hot water in showers - requires kitchen tap to be open to increase pressure through gas heater. Disappointing that chalet is not eco-friendly e.g. solar water heater.

Excellent location amongst natural vegetation & comfortable accommodation for 5 adults. Short drive to the beach inside the iSimingaliso nature reserve. Abundant crockery, cutlery & cooking utensils. Friendly, helpful staff.

The chalets are quite old. The shower is outside, at the terrace, yes! In the bathroom there is a huge bathtube with no shower and a tiny basin...

It's well located to move around, beach, national parks.... It seems that our booking with Booking.com did not reach the hotel, however the staff managed to sort it out.
