Beautifully situated in the middle of the reserve - animals are coming in principle to your door. The room was well setup, including an open fireplace (that we did not use). Wonderful surrounding and efficienct restaurant service.

There is a hygiene issue in the restaurant with birds, especially at breakfast. The sparrows come and eat off the food laid out for breakfast buffet when it is not covered properly. They also roost in the roof rafters and defecate from there. Some action is required. We both left with a stomach upset!?

The Otter suites were very cool and unique. Comfortable and spacious. The food was first class and the service exceptional. The excursions were fairly priced and the hosts knowledgable and very friendly. This was one of the highlights of our trip along the Garden Route.

De Hoop Reserve is a beautiful location. It’s very special having bontebok, ostrich and eland walking around the properties. The weather wasn’t great but we still managed to see a number of whales but the bay area is stunning so even if we hadn’t seen any we would have had a gorgeous time there. Staff have obviously been trained well - particularly the evening dinner staff. They were charming and efficient even though the restaurant was full.

That is an awesome accommodation in an awesome surrounding. The hotel with several small houses suites perfect in the nature reserve. The staff is welcoming and makes you feel like home. I stayed only one night and wish I would have had more time to spend in this wonderful place.

For the price you pay for the suites, back-up power during load shedding shouldbe considered. If not feasible, at least some decent LED-lights should be put in place to make it possible to sit and read during load shedding. The old school torch offered was no help in this regard.

The location on De Hoop Vlei and the vastness of the reserve were impressing. The room was clean and tastefully furnished with a comfortable mozzie-netted bed.The food was much better than expected, actually quite lekker and it came with an extensive, interesting and reasonably priced wine list. The staff was really, really nice and accommodating with the shining star being Dennis in the bar/restaurant. What a guy! We would be very happy to return.

Beautiful place, calm, feels like you are alone in the world. You actually live alongside the animals (baboons, ostriches...), dining is very good and staff perfect. We had the Vlei suite with amazing views on the estuary.

The walks you could do by yourself are a bit limited.

The kitchen was very good, the food was better than expected. The little cottage was cosy and private. It would have been nice to have a door between the bed and the bathroom because of the toilet.

Whilst the bed was made each day the bathroom wasn't wiped down and bins in the room were not emptied each time. May be an oversight but not acceptable for what we were paying A can of peaceful sleep would be helpful touch.

The road to the place is about 50 minutes on a dirt road and the ride is not pleasant
