Recommend that you take a cork screw with you as we couldn't open our bottle of wine, as there was no bottle opener.

Accommodation was great, clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to go back if we are ever in the area.

Only thing that could improve the stay is Eskom not having load shedding.

Our host Talita, was very friendly and helpful, meeting us at the local garage to direct us back to the unit. The town of Calvinia is beautiful set on the Western Cape Escarpment with the mountains as our backdrop. Die Hok the perfect venue for our overnight stay, catering to us and our 4-legged family members with a beautiful Karroo gargen for the dogs to wander around in.

Ventilation/airflow slightly limited, perhaps a fan would alleviate this limitation. Hooks to hang clothing would be nice.

Privacy was good and ample parking in close proximity to the room. Enough electrical plugs and warm comfortable shower and ablution facilities.

The location in Calvinia is excellent for a start or end of flower viewing as well as overnight stop in a long trip. It is outside the town on a smallholding a few hundred meters from the main road to the North East. The rooms are simple, but comfortable with modern facilities - everything you need for a good night's rest. Vehicles are parked under cover very near to the rooms and there is a braai and firepit close by. We appreciated the personal attention of the kind owner in meeting us at the giant mailbox in town and leading us to Die Hok, where an oil heater was already on and advising us to leave it on all night, We will gladly book an overnight stay at Die Hok again.

Apart from the fact that the owner had us wait 20 min outside the gate when we arrived although we had agreed on arrival time, and did not apologize for it, the main problem was that the room was extremely loud. Throughout the night you hear the heavy trucks on the R27 but also we could hear everything that was happening in our neighbours' room as if we were there. (To give you an idea we heard his cell phone which was on vibration mode and we could hear his telephone conversation including the voice of the person he was calling!) Since the room is advertised as self-catering for 3 people we regretted that there were only 2 chairs to sit around the table.

The room was clean and the beds were ok There were batteries allowing uninterrupted light and WiFi during Loadshedding.

A quaint place in a private part of the town. Quaint on the outside but fully fitted to meet any traveller's expectation.

Talita was very accommodating when I couldn't keep to my previously-arranged arrival time. I could check myself in and out with no fuss or trouble. I appreciated the safety for a solo-traveller, and the comfort of a hot shower and a soft bed after a long day on the road. Everything I need at a bargain price - I'll definitely return**
