More tea and coffee could have been supplied, the containers were rather empty and only rooibos was supplied for the tea drinkers, but thats not a big problem at all !

Self-catering facilities were excellent, bedding fantastic, bathrooms perfect, wish we had had more time there !

Our one night stay at Donkieshoek was nothing short of fantastic. Tucked away in the rural outskirts of Calvinia, just a short drive from the local Spar, this self-catering gem exceeded all expectations. ✨🏞️ The place was spick and span, which is always a huge plus. And they didn't hold back on the amenities. From backup power during load shedding to electric blankets on the beds, panel heaters in every room, ceiling fans, air fryer, smart TV, and reliable WiFi. 🛏️🔌📺 The lady who greeted us was warm and welcoming. Plus, it was a nice surprise when a farm worker dropped off some fresh eggs – We appreciated that a lot! 🥚😊 As for comfort, the beds were big and nice (each room had one bed that felt like a king size and then a single bed as-well), and the abundance of quality towels didn't go unnoticed. And the price was surprisingly reasonable given the high standards of the place. 💤👌 The presence of friendly donkeys and ostriches on the farm (who loves to dance for you) added to the charm of the location. 🐴🕺🦢 In a nutshell, Donkieshoek is a gem worth checking out if you're passing through Calvinia. Highly recommended! 👍🌟

Consider having an extractor fan for the braai area.

Check-in was super easy, we had some rusks and coffee waiting for us. The place was clean and very ideal for our family. it is close to all the amenities and a great place to stay if you would like to see the wildflowers.

We notifid the hostess by cell phone. She was threre within minutes to unlock and to welcome us. She also introduced us to the 4 darling tame donkies. The house was everything we could dream about. Fully self catering. Even rusks and electric blankets. The small stove would arrive the followig day. The ostrich even danced with us, showing of to his wife who was broding on several eggs.

Very clean and comfortable. It was a very cold and rainy night. There were electric blankets, but one side on the double bed didn't warm up. The wall heaters made up to provide a cosy atmosphere. Loved the donkeys.

What a gem, it was in a lovely setting, the donkeys and Ostrich were delightful. The host, who I never met was by no means absent, kept in touch and thought of EVERYTHING. Nothing was too much trouble or above her notice. We could have stayed longer!

Delightful Karoo cottage decorated beautifully. Located off the main road, Donkieshoek is a haven of peace with the most delightful donkeys and a pair of ostriches who kept us entertained all afternoon. Donkieshoek is our second home and is used as the halfway point to our trip to Kgalagadi NP. Extremely comfortable accommodation with all amenities available. Karen is a superb host and always willing to assist!
