Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumThe lodge is very dark.
Hennie and his staff are very, very friendly! We booked two rooms but got a whole lodge to ourselves, it felt a little 'spooky' in the beginning but when we made a fire in the fireplace, it felt better :-). Even through the lodge is old, it was very clean. Breakfast was excellent!

South AfricaThe 2nd entrance to the property was not automated and it was rather difficult and heavy opening and closing the gate manually- at all hours.
Hennie welcomed us so warmly and took us on a walk-about to show us all the fabulous facilities- including the Honesty Bar, breakfast room and gorgeous views. He also made sure that our Game Driver had access to the property and he was up at 5.30am to assist him. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable- we had the entire house for ourselves which was marvelous. Everything one needed was under one roof. Wood was provided for the indoor fireplace and perfectly cleaned the next day as well as the braai area. Extra blankets, water bottles and heater was provided for our warmth and comfort. The entire place was spotless and all the cutlery, crockery etc in the kitchen was washed, cleaned and packed away. All the kitchen equipment is well provided for and in wonderful condition. Our dietary needs were so taken care of and even our packed breakfast for our Game drive was done with kind and careful consideration of our dietary needs and delivered to the house the previous afternoon. Hennie even provided us with ice for our drinks and to keep the rest in our freezer. The breakfast were delicious and Mabel and Elizabeth were wonderful in all their culinary delights, which included home-made waffles and a gorgeous fruit display. They prepared for our dietary needs and were just so warm, kind and caring. They also took care of all the cleaning and organizing of the house- which we were so grateful for. We had such a relaxing and refreshing holiday, with a fire at night and at breakfast and will be back with friends to enjoy another super break. There was a generator, so thankfully NO LOADSHEDDING!!! It is also quite close to Tourist attractions and some lovely Malls. Thanks so much to all the dedicated staff at Greenfire Hazyview Lodge.

Hennie is a very nice, kind man who is willing to explain everything. The area is so beautiful! We did a few tracks around the house. There is a gate (ask the access code by app in advance). The house itself is very old, there is a huge kitchen you can use, the shower is perfect! The breakfast is so much, with more than you can eat yoghurt, fruit, their own coffee (!) from the plantation, bread, eggs, jam, honey and even cheese. We will come back if we are again in the area.

United KingdomNot a lot can be done about this but the floors creak badly so would feel sorry for those in the rooms below. Couldn't gain access to the property on arrival because we couldn't make phone calls and weren't pre-advised of access code. Fortunately another party that knew the code arrived soon after.
Lovely traditional thatched building with shared kitchen and BBQ if required. Rooms were lovely and because it was quiet we could choose our rooms. Very unusual to have an honesty bar in this day and age but good to see some trust in humanity. Breakfast was exceptional. Having wildlife roaming the property was lovely.

CanadaGetting here was a bit frustrating because you have to phone for the code to the gate, and I don’t have a phone, however I asked a neighbor and he called for me. Once you get past the gate, there are no signs at all, so hope to be greeted by the staff otherwise you’ll get lost in the forest as there are no clues to where it is, not even a sign on the house! Worth the frustrating start though, once you are here it’s amazing.
The house was built decades ago and the jungle has come back to reclaim the land, leaving a delightfully spooky, dark house set in gloomy woods, with ponds and swamp all round. At any moment I kept expecting the clock and the candlesticks to start singing. Sadly, Lumiere and Cogsworth were a no-show, but the house is lovely. Very spacious and well appointed, but dark, oh my god, it’s dark! Black wood and tobacco yellow walls, dim lighting, metal sculptures, eerie paintings – the house was decorated by Tim Burton! Hennie the caretaker was a delight to talk to, very congenial and helpful. He’s a real character and worth spending time with, although, out of character for the place, he’s not a hunchback 😊 The house is set in 40 acres of lime farm and nature reserve, and you’ll see Kudu’s as you drive in. If you’re lucky, Hennie will be able to spot Bush Babies for you in the evening. I was here alone but slept well despite the odd creak and groan as the house devoured the previous night’s guest. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the breakfast a belly-busting three course meal. Wifi is good, but unfortunately only available in the lodge next door, so that’s a mild irritant if you like to work in bed. The lodge is separated from the house by a short walk past the swimming pool, and houses the dining room, bedrooms for tour group guests and an honor bar, which always gets a thumbs up from me. A 4-minute drive away is Tank’s Bush Pub, which serves cold beer and good food in a traditional Bush Pub, which you should experience when you’re in South Africa – beer and wings under a tarp, in the middle of nowhere.

RomaniaTo say it was better than we expected is an understatement. The property is very large and has its own little rainforest. The nyalas on the property are very beautiful. We liked the overal design, the breakfast area, everything. Also, Hennie was the best. We wanted to checkout a bit later to get the chance to explore the property and he showed us their plantations of coffee, lime, macadamia. Would definitely come again and stay more 😊
