We would have preferred more privacy. Did not realize that the cottages are so close together. Host need to inform guests that ample firewood is important to keep cottage warm.

Cottage was very well equipped, clean and tastefully furnished. Beautiful views of the mountain. Fireplace was a life saver with the inclement weather.

In the heart of the mountains, remote and very peaceful (despite sitting in the cloud for much of the time, we still got views of the “lower” slopes!). Very comfy bed, awesome hot outdoor shower especially enjoyable in the rain! Well equipped kitchen, lovely living area with views out through picture windows. Great comms with the owner on booking.com and WhatsApp. Be aware of very steep (and sometimes lumpy) driveway - absolutely fine, and would be fine with non-SUV too, just make sure you have good enough clearance and comfortable with your gears as you will need control. We loved it!

Drive up was a little hairy. You need a decent car.

Everything about this place is stunning! The perfect mountain retreat. We were just gutted we hadn't booked another night as it was an oasis.

    Everything was perfect

We had a wonderful stay at Highbourne Cottages. The view from the property is stunning, we loved having our morning coffee in bed looking out over the mountains. The kitchen was spacious and very well stocked for cooking at home. We really enjoyed braai’ing on the balcony too. The location of the cottages is brilliant with trails straight out into the mountains or to Champagne Castle for a sunset drink. It’s also very close to the Drakensberg Boys Choir school which is well worth a visit for their concerts

You have to drive a scary small steep road (with bumps, stones and such) for the last 300 meters or so. You get used to it, a bit, but it's no fun. We arrived in the evening in the dark, we advise not to do that when you drive the road for the first time (or when it has rained). The house is "off-grid" and uses solar energy. That is great so you don't have the problem of "load-shedding". But sadly, when it's been cloudy, you have no electricity at all. During the three nights we stayed that happened twice (for many hours). They have beehives there. We didn't see many bees but if you are allergic to bees, then be warned. If you don't mind these issues, then this place will gave you amazing views!!! We enjoyed it.

Location was amazing! Beautiful views of the mountains. Only 500 meters from the "official" starting point for all the hikes (but you can also do two hikes from the house itself). We had a complaint about the matras (it was very hard) but the next day they replaced it with a different one, we appreciated that. Owner was helpful. Communication with the owner was mostly through whatsapp.

    Nothing.

We loved the remote, off the grid location. The mountain views were spectacular and the cottage was beautiful, warm and cosy. Our hosts were super friendly and catered to our every need. One of our best stays in the Berg - also no power outages, fully solar and gas. Also absolutely loved the outdoor shower!

    Nothing comes to mind.

Beautiful property high up in the mountain, eye level with the rolling terraces of the Drakensberg. The house and gardens are beautiful, and we experienced both a cold, rainy, misty day and a bright sunny day. Both days were special. The two houses we occupied both had fireplaces to keep us warm and toasty. Anton and Jenny were kind and helpful hosts.
