How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

We had a good nightsit is a bit difficult to give an accurate assessment of the facility as we basically only slept over. Communicating with the guest house was a bit difficult but Bea was very helpful when I did manage to get through

Slightly disturbing noise from shower drain when flushing the toilet - forgot to mention it...
Spacious room and bathroom. Good range of in-room snacks. Pity about stage 6 load shedding which meant that in the middle of the heat wave the room got a bit warm overnight.

Loadshedding, there were no backup power. Wifi speed it is very slow. It is a farm, cellphone signal is very bad, at times there would be no connection at all. There were no outside lights at night, it is very dark.
It is a great place, the garden and the rooms are great. Free Wifi available which could be a little bit faster.

The guests are very nice and easy to join. They prepared everything to make our arrival easy. The rooms are quiet and the breakfast is perfect. You can quickly feel like home!

The room was clean and comfy. Was lovely to have a couple things at our disposal, such as the rusks, tea and coffee and water. Perfect for a short stay.

We had a wonderful stay. The hosts were really caring and welcoming. The breakfasts and dinner were delicious and super generous and the rooms were super comfy and cosy. The hosts also went the extra mile in wishing my brother happy birthday with a special breakfast and gift, which made it very special.

The lady receiving us was annoyed because we did not respond to her email informing her what time we will arrive. I want to suggest that this get communicated when confirmation is sent. With loadshedding you do not have reception to check your emails and other hosts will phone you if they are not at the premises and have to open for you. There was no wifi password left in the room we had to go and ask for it. We had only 1 toilet roll and could not get hold of the hostess for more, although we only stayed for 1 night 1 roll was not enough. We got there just before loadshedding - there was no candle or light in the room we had to go look for the hostess, she was not very welcoming or friendly, it is a shame as the place is lovely.

Not too much to dislike. We were not searching for 100 things to do in the area (and we have stayed in the local vicinity twice before). This was just perfect for a couple who want to be relatively close to Maropeng, Sterkfontein Caves and the rest of the Cradle of Humankind. It is a short drive away from shops, etc and is an amazingly quiet venue on a lovely property.
We booked in for wedding a kilometre away and had a pleasant 1½ hours preparing for the function. The bathroom facilities were awesome and everything in our unit was fantastic. We did not stay for breakfast, however, on wanting to deposit the keys, I ventured into the house and there were some American visitors enjoying a hearty and scrumptious smelling breakfast. The owner, 'B', turned out to be a delightful character and insisted on coming out to meet my wife and we left a full 20 minutes later. Unfortunately, even after promising, I forgot her full name.

The water pressure is not very good, and the lack of signal can be an issue. Small problems though.
Lovely setting and very nicely laid out room and bathroom. Very peaceful and relaxing. Friendly host.

Nothing, for our type of stay it was perfect. Possibly one day to replace the fan with an aircon for summer? Otherwise perfect!
Great value for money. We attended a wedding nearby and Kromdraai was seamless booking, comfortable room with all we needed and lovely tranquil setting. Enjoyed having my morning coffee at the pool with the birds for company. I was really impressed that we had filter coffee and a plunger instead of only the usual instant sachets... made my day. The snacks were a lovely touch too. Will definitely stay again and would recommend a great stopover, for one or two nights.
