Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaOnly the weather :) We were just unlucky with the rain but still made for an enjoyable experience which didn't stop the amazing game viewing experiences.
A wonderful trip, staff were attentive, the facilities were absolutely amazing with stunning views; and the game viewing was spectacular. We loved our trip to Shalati.

GermanyEverything was perfect on our stay. There was nothing we disliked.
Very very friendly staff. Nice rooms with a unique view. We especially liked the Game Drives with Victor who showed us stunning places and we saw highlights such as baby lions, zebras, Elefants, leopards and much more and he gave lots of background knowledge so we learned a lot how the animals and nature are in sync in Kruger park. We can definitely recommend staying in Kruger Shalati. Would book there again every time for visiting Kruger Park.

Beautiful hotel, great service, excellent food, helpful staff, amazing game drives with Theboho, been in the Kruger national park give you great chance to see a lot of game. Group of hippos lives just under the bridge under the train. Suites on land are just amazing: big, clean, comfortable.

United KingdomThe hand towel had a ragged edge, the serviettes were frayed and on one occasion still wet. I considered the laundry charges high. Would have preferred the morning drive to be later, perhaps an early breakfast and depart 7.30/8.00
Like the whole set up on the bridge and the attention to detail on the construction.

SwitzerlandThe stay and experienes at Shalati are simply unforgettable. The design of the hotel is very unique. We are travelling with a kid, hence have to stay at the landside garden suite, but the suite is equally elegant and spacious. The interior is beautiful, the bathroom very spacious. The staff and meals are AMAZING, we attended the Valentine's Day special evening with live performance, it was wonderful! We are greeted in and out from Safaris, which is the best part of the experience at Shalati. We all loved our Safari rides with Michek, he is the best guide ever! Every day its a combination of two exciting Safari trips, and in between the relaxation with good food, hospitality from the staff, fun pools, wildlifes in and surrounding Shalati. The whole experience way exceeded our expectations! We will recommend it to everyone!

FranceNot being able to stay a little longer.
The location is incredible with an extensive view of the river. From the terrace one can see elephants, hippos and even crocodiles. The game drives twice a day are a must especially when you have a great guide like Victor. The food is also excellent. I would also like to stress out the great service of Angel and Vlak at the restaurant.

GermanyNothing to complain but you have to be aware that due to the number of rooms and guests this is more a hotel than a cosy lodge. You can find your privacy though if you want.
The location is unique as is the idea to renovate an old train and park it on a bridge in the middle of Kruger Park crossing the Sabie River. The rooms in the train are beautifully designed even the space is restricted due to the train measures. The view through the large windows is great and if you are lucky you can see animals right from your room. Staff was very attentive and food was excellent. On top we were lucky with our game drive seeing a lot of animals right around the lodge.

South AfricaFebruary is a very hot month to be on the train that stands in the sun all day. There is aircon in the rooms, which did help.
The unique position of the room, being on a train on a bridge. The room was very comfortable, the open-plan bathroom with the view was also great.
