Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

We planned going to the Amakhala Woodbury Lodge on next day. We decided to stay at Leeuwenbosch for one night as it was 5 minutes to drive to Woodbury Lodge. We were very impressive with Leeuwenbosch because it was so beautiful and enjoyed our one night staying at Leeuwenbosch - everything were met our needs. We are highly recommendation to anyone must go there! Staff is so friendly and warm host to our check in. We would love to come back here again in the future. Luke & Jackie from Bury, England

We loved the setting, the accommodation, the food, the staff, the game drive and absolutely everything (including the lack of load shedding).

United KingdomSome of the lighting on the paths was inadequate and the lack of WiFi in the rooms also disappointing. There was also some road noise during the night.
Excellent breakfast with a good choice and evening dinner also good with a good choice of wine served. Also liked the animals walking around the garden.

United KingdomThere was nothing wrong with it
I loved the setting. The main house is stunning but I loved Shearer’s Lodge because it was set further back and my room was spacious and appealing. The gardens and vegetation are fabulous especially when you find a beautiful zebra munching away at the grass on your front lawn. I also loved the set up - the game drives and meals were all organised and as I was travelling alone, it made me feel comfortable and at ease.

South AfricaThe pillows need replacing. Some of the staff needed a bit more training on local knowledge. The property is right on the N2 which is great from travelling point of view but does disturb the peace and tranquility offered
This property was really great with a lot of history attached. Rooms were clean and well prepared. Dinner and breakfast were really tasty. There is a wonderful little pub to have pre dinner drinks. We did not go on a game drive but saw kudu, zebra and warthog from our stoep.

NetherlandsThe location was perfect and the safari in the Amakhala reserve was amazing. The landscape was magic and we have memories that will stay forever. The lodge was also very confortable, and charming. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Similar to what you will get in a fancy restaurant.

South Africaonly issue we had was the hot water flow to the shower but apparently this was being addressed and is a temporary thing which is true as we didnt have the issue last time.
The staff are great, Nomonde is a great manager and a proper human being. Ouboet, the ranger is the best we have experienced. staff like Sandy and the other ladies and gents are great! this was our 2nd time this year, its affordable and the food is great- Accom, incl bfast and dinner plus wine with the dinner is really good value compared to a lot of the other operators in the area. Its not 5 star, hence the affordability, but the game vehicles are the same as the 5 star lodges, the game experience is equal or better because of their experienced rangers. so if you love the bush, want a laid back break to be with wildlife with really good, clean and generous sized accommodation, lots of space to walk around, great food and warm service, then this is the place to go, we will definitely be back.

South AfricaAt first I was a bit concerned about being close to the N2 highway but honestly when you in your bedroom with the thick of walls and trees surrounding the lodge, it’s not a concern at all.
from the moment we arrived till the moment we left we were made to feel very welcomed and nothing was too much trouble. everyone e was so hospitable and kind.

Such an authentic experience. The farm has an amazing family history. The game drives with Mali were exceptional. Its not an enormous reserve and very soon we had seen Elephants, Zebra, Giraffe and even a lion. The food is excellent home cooking. The staff really friendly and informative and overall it’s great value for money. This isn’t a high end luxury game experience but an honest and authentic one. I can’t wait to come back!

BelgiumSince they do not have back-up power, during load shedding, it was not so convenient. (No internet, no water as water pump works with electricity ,no shower ). We experienced a big storm and some power lines were hit in the region; and we had no electricity and water for two days ! Some people decided to checkout because of that.
Property was right next / on the game park and we had an amazing game tour with great ranger. Very peaceful property with great history, spacious room, large bed. Friendly and helpful staff!

2nd time we’ve stayed there and just as good as the first. This is a great and far more cost effective way of safariing in Amkala Nature Reserve. The house and lodge are furnished in an old Dutch farm style which is lovel and the gardens/ pool make it unique in the area. Far cheaper than the lodges in the park and only across the road so the safaris are exactly the same!
