Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe cigarette smoking. Other than my room, it was difficult to find clean air spaces. I had anticipated the noise and crime in the area, but the hotel was very secure at night.
The friendly staff and the many activities they provided. Also, I was able to make several new international friends.

South AfricaEverything was great.
The atmosphere was great, from the staff to the other guests. There is even a WhatsApp group where everyone can get to know each other and get to travel to attractions together.

South AfricaThe bathrooms I have used are not separate from the toilet, but I guess the fact that there's many alternatives for bathroom helps.
The room was up to my expectation. I was impressed with the communal areas: The Bar, the TV room, and the Working Room was the best feature even though I didn't have to use it, I now know next time I can have a little office at accommodation for my work.

United KingdomI would like to have free coffee in the morning provided to deal with the hangovers.
The general vibe was great in the hostel, the dorms were spacious and airy, the location is spot on as Long Street has a lot of bars. The bar is awesome and they have nightly activities to get everyone chatting. Good balconies as well! Also, the staff are really helpful and friendly (Ivan, Aya, Mia, Ursula, Willow) and Conrad is the Braiimaster General and knows where the nightlife is at! Can't wait to get back to CPT.

United StatesThe beds were a little bit uncomfortable and at times it was quite hot in the rooms at night, also, there is quite a bit of noise that permeates throughout the whole hostel but that is due to the location. Long street is not known as a quiet area of Cape Town, so it's not really the fault of the hostel.
Super lively hostel with daily events and a bar! It's right on long street so you are staying at the heart of the city in Cape Town, which is both a good thing and bad thing if you are trying to get some good rest because you are always finding something new to do!

NamibiaNot every dorm room has lockers to store your belongings. Mine had 3 for 4 beds. And the other connected rooms didn't have any.
Central location, easy to get to places. Cute little courtyard to chill. Great staff and people. My stay was unfortunately short, I would have loved to join the activities offered by the hostel.

RussiaThere is no big cheap supermarkrets around this street, Only SPAR in 600 metres to south.
This is good location in center of Capetown. Long street is tourstic area and safe. You will see many Westerns along all this street. Many small shops, old houses and mosques around.

CanadaGreat common area and social atmosphere. We were a little apprehensive to stay on long street but felt perfectly safe during the day! (We ubered everywhere at night). The private room we were in was connected to an odd little dorm room with one bunk bed which was a bit weird having to walk through what felt like someone’s private dorm when they were sleeping in the morning. It worked though! Great value for money, clean, well equipped kitchen, and friendly knowledgeable staff :)

GermanyIf you need rest it's not the best place
It's a loud hostel in the middle of Cape Town's top party street. It has a bar and two balconies where you can sit with a beer and watch the street. So, whenever you're in that mood, it's an excellent place. Nice and helpful staff.

United StatesCan be loud depending on the day you are there such as on a weekend. Staff and the llodge try their best to mitigate noise witin the lodge after a certain hour as much as possible, but it can be quite noisy. The rooms can also be quite stuffy and hot at night even with provided fans.
Great location and very helpful/ friendly staff at this lodge. If you're looking for more of a party vibe and easy access to night life and locations within much of the city of Capetown this is the place for you.

United KingdomThere were a couple things: - no hand soap in the bathroom?!?!?!? - the bathroom could use an additional scrub from mold and yellow stains. - when I checked in, the guy just showed me the room and that was it. Later on seen other check ins where they explained them what is where around etc. I think they had a bar/coffee shop but since nobody explained me and could not find staff to ask in there-maybe it works at some point but this is all I got! - there was a lady with slightly passive aggresive vibe who gave me a door code to use at night and later on told me if I use it during the day, it would take less time to get in (make up your mind on what you want guests to do). - at night is quite noisy from the streets ( and if you are unlucky like me someone may decide to slam doors at 2am for fun, you get woken up). Overall, they have the facilities. It is good for a short stay-1-2 nights.
The hostel is located on long street which is city centre and where loads of restaurants and bars are, and the red bus pickup location is close by and the walking tours gathering points (5 min away). I had my own room which was good-comfy bed, a fan and a desk. I stayed there for 2 nights, but did not socialise much with people in-jet lag kicked in after I arrived. There is a commubnal kitchen which has majority of what you may need to cook so that was good. It is good for a short stay...but I personally did not like the vibe.
