Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. South AfricaHost is unrealiable and wanted to scam us on a one night additional stay. When confronted she put the phone down in my Aunts ear. We had to pay additional fees R150 per day for cleaning and the cleaner worked for one hour without cleaning properly. No cold water in first bedroom basin. Very kittle kitchen utensils. We had to buy extras. The unit was very dirty with torn bedding. The hosts sister sent my Aunt disturbing messages so that she blocked them. My Aunt said that they have no integrity and are rubbish. If they are still the hosts we will never stay there again.

South AfricaThe bunk beds were unstable with no side rails, it posed a danger to the kids. I ended up having to book another accommodation so that no kid would sleep on the top bunk. There is an old machine covered with a dusty cloth, only God knows why it is kept there because it is broken. Bed linen had dog fur. The place was just unpleasant. I was disappointed as I have never booked such a place in St Lucia

South AfricaThat we had to pay for cleaning the place after we leave, yet no1 came to clean while we were there. Having an inverter but it does not work so we are in darkness with just 1 light for the entire house. The house advertised as a private pool, however the pool was far from the house in someone else's yard and it was sooo small, could not accommodate our group

South AfricaThe key for the front gate broke off in the lock. The key was given to us bent by the host. The locksmith told us that the gate had already been giving them multiple problems in the past. The host expects us to pay R480 for the call-out for the locksmith even though its their fault. After we had completed our stay she informs us that we were supposed to push the gate and then turn the key. That is unacceptable as the gate was already faulty and should have been fixed before our arrival. We were sent the invoice for the callout and on it states "Guests must push gate forward and then turn key , this is a slam lock and must be pushed forward to turn the key". We were never told this neither were any sigh/warning on the gate stating this. The freezer doesn't work and goes off on its own. If it was only going off during loadshedding it wouldn't have been an issue. We had 11kgs of bait which was almost R800 that we couldn't use or take the remainder back home because it had gone off and turned mushy. We were not informed before arriving that there is no water when there is loadshedding. This makes having a bath and washing dishes very difficult. This was a fishing trip so the mornings and nights we were on the beach. Some of the first things you want to do after going back to the chalet is to have a shower and eat. We were told there is an inverter we can use but does not work we informed the host twice about this but nothing was done There are not 2 sets of bunk beds in 1 room as shown on booking.com. 1 set of bunk beds are in the lounge. The air-conditioner in the bedroom with 2 single beds does not work. There is a small portable fan but it's doesn't help. The pool is a very small communal pool so either try find a time that the pool is empty or be prepared to stay in more or less the same spot when there's other guests in the pool. Dont bother trying to watch TV as the TV is old and needs to be replaced.
