Nothing, great experience!

The lodge is managed by a very nice couple. The personnel was very friendly and helpful. Very good and tasty food (breakfast + dinner). Although the accomodation suffered from a storm on the day of our arrival, i.e. electricity was hurt, Tanya did everything to provide us a remarkable stay. Choert made a fantastic game drive and concentrated on only two of the Big Five (lions + rhinos), so we could spent most of the time observing animals instead of making kilometers in the Welgewonden reservat (entry is very close to the lodge).

If you don't go on the game drives twice a day, there's not much to do at the lodge. There is an hour-long hiking trial on the property, which is not sufficient if you are serious about hiking. The lighting in the rooms, especially the bathrooms, should be improved. The bathroom is just too dark.

A peaceful and quiet bushveld lodge where you can relax while you listen to all the birds and watch the game. An amazing breakfast and dinner were served. All the staff are very friendly and do their best to make your visit memorable. The rooms are big and spacious and decorated to suit the bushveld theme.

The location of the property was great. Rooms were neat and very comfortable. The food was great. Choert is an excellent ranger with excellent knowledge of the bushveld and animals. Tanya is an excellent host, and all staff is friendly. Everyone made us feel welcomed. We will definitely be back! Sooner than later!🙏😊

Our stay at Matingwe Lodge was an incredible experience for us! Why? 1. The lodges are absolutely beautiful with an outstanding view on the nature, are equipped with fancy furniture and the whole resort is extremely clean. 2. The whole service and meals are fantastic! Breakfast and dinner are included and every meal was super delicious. Tanya and team made an extraordinary job! 3. Game drives: Wow! We had four game drives and our guide Choert brought us next to zebras, hippos, lions, cheetahs, elephants and many many more animals. While having the game drives, Choert taught us so much about animals, the nature and the respect of them and every drive was so much fun due to his entertaining character. These drives created unforgettable memories for us. Thank you Tanya and Choert, we will never, never, never forget this trip!

All was perfect. I didn’t like the fact it was too short…

Beautiful and comfortable lodge on the edge of Welgevonden game reserve. The lodge is managed by Tanya and Choert, a very friendly, efficient and helpful couple. They made everything to make our stay a success. Tanya is a great chef cooking excellent dishes. Choert is the game driver with a perfect knowledge of the bush. He is passionate and made every game drive a thriving moment. We saw a lot of animals with hunting lions at close distance as the “cherry on the cake”. Thank you for everything.

Tanya and Chourt were absolutely fantastic hosts and managers of the lodge. Rooms are beautiful, very classy and super clean and the surrounding of the lodge is just exceptional. The food, both breakfast and dinner were always home-made, quality ingredients and delicious and going on the game drives with Chourt was absolutely great! He is super knowledgeable, so keen on providing a great experience and most of all, great fun to be with. We had an amazing time and can just recommend it.

I have yet to experience such a serene environment coupled with the fact that Shauna and Wilhelm are but the best hosts I have ever come across. It felt like being at home. I find the small things count more than anything from the bedtime story left when the bed was turned down to the juice given when coming back from the game drive to the freshly baked muffins. WHAT A LOVELY EXPERIENCE. Thanks to Shauna and Wilhelm.

Being so remote it would make much more sense to offer lunch or provide access to some basic snacks such as biltong, chips, nuts, sandwiches or similar. These could be at the bar which was well stocked with drinks. Consider offering something else for guests to do between breakfast and dinner. Promote the vast walking trails, possibly bring in a spa treatment (mobile).
