Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaI was hoping to prove previous reviews wrong in terms of the flies. Unfortunately opening any of the stacker doors was impossible due to the relentless ‘super flies’ - they seemed to be immune to fly repellent. The Villa is perfectly designed for open living, however I would strongly suggest the hosts seriously investigate some form of eco friendly pest control. Red Top fly catchers or possibly fogging the unit prior to guest arrival? We used a can of Mortein on our first day, which only seemed to attract more flies. Unfortunately the flies proved to be quite a menace which resulted in us spending very little time outdoors.
Privacy and tranquillity. Tastefully decorated, attention to detail. Mini infinity splash pool. Location within close proximity from Pretoria. Excellent host communication.

Very beautifully appointed rooms with TV and good wifi signal. Very clean rooms with comfortable beds. The team is very helpful and so professional. We were kept up to date before arrival and on arrival they called to check if we were safe and settled. Love that the villas are also secluded from each other, allowing for more privacy

South Africathere were too many flies more than mosquitos we went through 3 cans of insect spray. we requested for cleaning and were told that someone would come, no one attended to us throughout our stay. The gate system needs to be more efficient, if 2 cars are on both sides only one can go through at a time meaning you would need to call again for the gate to be opened as there isn't anyone at the gate. There are lot of bugs but granted that its the bush, cant fault the property as they do mention this so be prepared
absolute tranquility, the villa had everything we needed. i loved how the animals roam freely but are also very cautious around people, there are so many options for places to eat around the reserve. the plunge pool was perfect for the December heat

South AfricaThe gravel road leading to the lodge is very uncomfortable. I would also recommend that they provide basic amenities like an iron. The fridge didn’t keep our stuff cold enough either
Really enjoyed my stay! Minara is easily the most aesthetically pleasing and beautiful lodges around. Great value for money considering it’s a private villa. It’s also super easy to navigate to there.

South AfricaThe front porch could use some work. Getting to the farmhouse is a hassle because of the roads in the area.
Loved the private pool. The nature around the farmhouse and the styling of the place. Also no mosquitoes. Constant hot water. Lots of plates and cutlery. Great variety of utensils. Really great for a self catering place.

South AfricaIt is very difficult to find Negatives with the lodge, and one would really have to nit-pick. The comments below are meant more as constructive feedback than a negative complaint. One issue that proved to be a nuisance was the persistent presence of multiple flies. This intrusion took away from the otherwise serene and tranquil atmosphere that the lodge strives to provide. The lack of reprieve from these persistent flies was certainly a downside to an otherwise well-appointed establishment. While I understand that the presence of insects is a common challenge in a bush environment, it would be advisable for the management to explore measures to mitigate this issue and ensure a more comfortable stay for guests. Perhaps an automated insect spray can be placed somewhere inside the lodge, similar to those small automated aerosol air fresheners. The lodge does advise to bring bug spray; However, I would definitely advise to bring an electric fly swatter and can of Doom. No signage was visible along the main paved road indicating the location of the lodge. We therefore had to rely solely on our Nav, trusting that the extended and narrow dirt road it directed us to was indeed the correct route to the lodge. I am unsure if it was due to load shedding, (which management kindly provided the schedules and timing for) but the power in the lodge tripped /reset a few times one evening. I suspect it could have been due to the Aircon perhaps drawing too much power. Despite these tiny drawbacks, I would like to emphasise that the lodge has many positive attributes, including its tasteful decoration, luxurious amenities, and private setting, and would highly recommend this lodge.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Minara Lodge and it was truly a delightful experience that exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped into the lodge, I was captivated by its tasteful and luxurious décor, creating an ambiance of refined elegance. One of the standout features of my stay was the attention to detail evident in every aspect of the lodge. The branded towels, plush bathrobe, and high-quality amenities provided a sense of luxury that added to the overall comfort of my stay. The lodge's commitment to privacy was another highlight. Nestled in a serene and secluded location, I appreciated the tranquillity and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The private setting allowed for a truly relaxing experience, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The private swimming pool and fire pit further enhanced the overall appeal of the lodge. The pool provided a refreshing and enjoyable way to unwind, while the fire pit created a cosy atmosphere for evening relaxation. Communication via WhatsApp was very efficient, massages and game drives were easily organised and if we required anything we got an almost immediate response My time at Minara was nothing short of exceptional. The tasteful decoration, private setting, make this lodge a standout choice for anyone seeking a luxurious and rejuvenating getaway. I highly recommend Minara to those who appreciate the finer things in life and desire a truly indulgent escape.

South AfricaYou are 35 mins drive from the entrance to the Dinokeng Game Reserve. It is certainly not a game lodge and you are enclosed in a small area which has four villas and a slightly large one called a farm house. There are a few buck inside the enclosure, but not much else.
Great rooms and comfortable beds. A nice place to unwind and relax. Well equipped kitchen and each unit has a plunge pool. A small playground is situated on the site.

South AfricaThere was a lot of flies in our room. We even drove to the nearest shop ( travel time back and forth is an hour) and bought doom but the flies didn’t die.
The place has wildlife on the premises. There we kudus, nyalas, wildebeest and springboks. The place is exactly as it looks in pictures. The pool is the perfect size and the wild animals are well trained as none of them came too close.
