How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

On a first day we had fool bin kitchen and toilet was smelling.wifi was not working even TV.. we bath with cold water. The guy was asking for 2 Rand's to us...we waited 15 minutes outside on the day of arrival

Parking space could do with some TLC to make it welcoming.Keep it neat and throw away old stuff you don't use. Reception can do better by becoming more hospitable,e.g A friendly & confident welcome,introduce his name and orientated guests about the surrounding area without waiting for guest to ask.

Everything cause I didn't even get access to the accommodation
This property is a scam, you will pay and when you get there you will find another family. Someone took pictures of their property and posted it on the site. You won't be able to access the property because it is private, even thou you paid the full amount. They actually ruined our weekend

Never got to sleep as all numbers I call were unanswered since I booked I got to the place it was dirty from outside , not as it looks on internet and unfortunately never got access to the place either .My money went down the drain and I was left stranded in durban had to look for an alternative

Did not get to stay there was turned away at the gate on arrival with a silly explain of renovation happening. Wasn't not informed when booking or days before arrival date nothing completely inconvenienced me and my family they didn't even bother making alternative agreements nore insure my money will be refunded I am still waiting. What if we didn't have any money to pay for another accommodation in the middle of the night with 3 kids. Absolutely disappointed.
Nothing just a huge inconvenience can I have my refund paid for the stay and an additional R1600 spent on the night because you didn't accommodate us.

I didn't found you guys, I shouted at your gate 100 times no response.I was scared of the nyaupoe boys because I spend almost 2 hours in your gate without any help. You guys you very disappointed me I will never recommend anyone to book in your place never! Over my dead body ! I paid you full amount but I didn't even sleep one day! You didn't make any follow-up, why you didn't ask yourself that I didn't signed in and signed out? In other words you stolen my money guys.

The apartment is a scam no one leave there we waited outside until we go it was so sad and we had to book another hotel ... Wat I dnt understand is that how can bookings. This is a scam! When we got to the destination, there was no one there! No one stays there! Neighbour's and a neighborhood security guard informed us that the owner is needed by the police because there has been many cases of him /her opened by traveller's whom he has scammed with this property.

The fact that booking was successful online but the property is no longer in service.
Nothing because we did not stay on the property, at all. The property is no longer suitable to receive guests due to vandalism.

Everything. When I arrived there it was an abandoned area/building we were told by a passerby that the building has had no one and had been like that for 3 months we only booked a month ago. So I think booking.com knew about this and hadn't refunded my money back and yes I will be suing booking.com for advertising False and taking my money knowing that this building is not in motion
