How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

A small farm feeling in the heart of Montagu Beautiful and safe setting. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Owners were extremely helpful and friendly.

Magnificent gardens plus olive orchard with a spectacular view of the mountains. The rooms were perfect, quiet and secluded
Ant and Pam were very attentive, attending to our every wish and giving us such good advice on the area. The room was superb, absolutely no complaints, and the complimentary cold glass of Sav Blanc on arrival was so welcome. The breakfast was one of the best we have ever experienced and guarantees that we will stay there again when next in the Cape on Route 62.

10/10 for "Montagu Vines Guesthouse ! What a magnificent property... All is there for you to relax en enjoy de magnificent mountains scenery encircling such a beautiful garden ! The hosts were extremely charming and welcoming. Each detail of our stay was made to our well being. Breakfast was perfect and deliciously prepared. We did enjoy sitting on the terrasse to enjoy the delicious and perfect breakfast made of the product of the garden. Our hosts are very keen on gardening. A terrific look for the eyes. They have succeed to turn that place in a wonderfull spot where to stay. We would have loved to stay 1-2 extra days on that spot but we had to go on ! Many thanks to both of you. We'll be back for sure next year and for a longer stay. Last but not least, we did enjoy all the informations given to go on along the Garden Tour... Very precious indeed ! Many many thanks. There is nothing not to like here - you cannot be disappointed
What wonderful hosts Anthony and Pam. Once we were settled in we were offered drinks in the garden. A dinner reservation was made for us at Church 22 under no obligation by the hosts , one less thing to think about after a day of traveling. Anthony was a wealth of local knowledge about what happens in Montagu , the local farming , their Olive grove etc. After a comfortable evening we were treated to a magnificent breakfast on the outside patio before leaving. Our biggest mistake is that we only had one night at Montagu Vines , we will rectify this on our next trip!

Seriously everything was perfect and if we had to find a fault it could only be a minor gripe. We seemed to have an issue with hot water at night. During the day it was fine but definitely later at night it was cold but the owners and hosts were paying attention to the problem so honestly it is a minor gripe that I feel sure has been sorted. Otherwise the plush comfort of the romantic room and the beautiful gardens really overshadowed this issue.
Stunning gardens and views. Very romantic room with a fireplace. Thick plush towels in the bathroom. So many places overlook this little luxury but not here!! Comfortable mattress and nice quality linen. Electric heating blanket a huge luxury. Full and delicious breakfast. We had rain so one morning inside then the next breakfast served outside on the beautiful patio overlooking the gardens and view. Hosts and staff are wonderful. The location is perfect, situated in a quite area but also within easy walking distance of town and its offerings. A really special, beautiful and romantic spot.
