Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

South AfricaAs I was about to get into bed, jump a mice under the pillow. I brought this to the handyman the following day. Mice and rats are known carriers of disease and gems, it was quite uncomfortable to sleep in a room and with linen that may be contaminated.

South Africathere was no staff member except for a very ignorant lady that gave me a key and forms to fill but never can back for them. A man working there said the lady who was to help us was off. the only people I saw there were nurses that would come help their patient in the other room

South AfricaTo say we had a terrible stay is an understatement. We’ve encountered so many issues since checking in Wednesday evening. The noise by other guests, two separate sets of guest, two nights in a row - was the last straw! Why does this place only take ONE NIGHT bookings in season periods? First of all, there is NO manager at the guesthouse. The gardener checked us in. No covid protocols are enforced (there’s just some self-printed posters up - I can send photos). Some signs are even just handwritten. No, sign-in/check-in was done, no temperature check, no sanitizing done by a manager. For a 4 star guesthouse, this is unacceptable and an owner or proper manager needs to be present at a guesthouse. This is not self-catering! Yet, guests treat it as such. Upon asking a guest to please be a little more quiet/respectful for the quiet, this morning, as they were making noise until past 00:00 last night and started up again before 6am this morning he condescendingly addressed me and made racist slurs. We live in a world where this should not be tolerated at all, especially when kindly asking them to be a little more quiet or at least considerate of the noise levels, as we are trying to sleep. He acted as he owned the place and also added that "then you should not have booked here as you don't belong here". We don't belong here? I kept quiet because he was intimidating me and if i had to say something it would have escalated. How are we supposed to feel safe and protected in a property, when this happens and there's no manager present? Last night and the previous night with the constant noise, the manager - Riekie, who is in St. Francis and not even close to the property at all - she sends the gardener, Monde, and ADT (Security company!) to come and quiet people down, which did not work, as it worsened the situation. As guests then grew louder, perhaps out of spitefulness? The guest told Monde that they are paying guests.
Nothing - it was the worst experience ever staying in a guest house, supposedly 4 star?! But there's not even management on the premises to address issues or communicate with, it's all done via the gardener and housekeeper and I was even asked to call the gardener myself the previous night when the noise grew too loud. NO covid protocols in place at all, covid (self printed) posters seem to be just stuck on for decoration.

South AfricaI will go back to Newington Place anytime when I need a home away from home, it is safe and clean.
I thought I was going to feel a little bit cold because there was no electric blanket but the throw over blanket I was offered did the magic. Booking.com gave me a discounted rate, which was more than value for money. The housekeeper was exceptionally kind, patient and professional. Thank you to Florence for taking me through the safety precautions on my arrival and for assuring me that she is a phone call away should I need to go out and was not sure about how the system works.
