Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe host was very friendly and helpful. We arrived very late in the evening so sadly just had a braai, a swim in the beautiful pool and went to sleep. A short walk around the property in the morning to see the amazing baobab trees was a lovely way to start the day. Wish we had stayed longer.

MalaysiaThe region doesn't support Vodacom (same with the northern Kruger Park region) so in order to get signal, once you exit the camp, turn right onto the main road and travel a few hundred meters to the tin shack taxi rank and park under the tree. Voila! You will be reconnected to the rest of the world :D And do remember to medicate or take precautions to mitigate malaria (we used insect repellents copiously). These issues are easily overcome. We strongly recommend anyone to stay at this amazing camp to get a true South African experience. Looking forward to our next several visits!
Nthakeni Bush & River Camp had been the best accommodation we had so far. The camp is situated safely in a warm and friendly place where there are no disturbances. Our little family accommodation was perfectly selected for us - a single room and a double room villa facing a calm and flowing river, that is often visited by grazing cows and donkeys (as well as not-so-grazing crocodiles) with their melodic bells reminding us of their presence. At night, the hyenas remind us that the real Africa is still very close by and frequently curious elephants will venture up to the camp but rest assured that you are in safe hands. Each room has a touch of individuality, with interesting artwork created by Oom Koos. The place is well maintained with clean water supply and efficient energy for basic usage. We support and salute to the owners' sustainable living effort! The camp's mini mart has all the necessities (we love the boerwors!) and works on an honesty basis. Kobus and Annaliese, owners of Nthakeni, are the best hosts one could ask for. They are hospitable and attentive, with their every concern towards the local rural community. If you order your meals (separately charged) a day in advance, you will get to taste the scrumptious food prepared by Gloria and Thelma who run the restaurant in situ. We also appreciate the daily housekeeping staff who made sure we had a clean and comfortable stay. The trail in the camp is very well thought out. We enjoyed trekking it not once but twice and had endless sightings of skinks, flat lizards and two round eared elephant shrews, apart from the myriad birds that we saw! Beautiful, gigantic baobab trees dotted the forest. Nthakeni is minutes away from Pafuri Gate, which makes it convenient to visit Kruger Park.

AustriaJust keep in mind that it is so remote to maybe not having wifi every day and to take enough food for cooking as the next supermarket is 90 km away.
Top hosts and staff! So helpful! Very remote close to the border! Lovely place with many lovely details! Hiking! Birding! Kidsfriendly! Wonderful pool! 100% Eco-tourism! 100% privacy! Small inside shop for basic food, drinks and sweets.

South AfricaWell there is nature and then there is nature. Lol. Did not get on with the ants that pounce on every bit of food that is left for a minute. It's to be expected at a place where nature is the buzz word.
The camp is a stone throw away from Pufuri gate into Kruger right in the heart of the local community. The road to the camp is very well sign posted and it twists and turns until you arrive at the gates of the camp. The river is the frontage to all the camps and it is beautiful. The pool is clean and looks like it was carved out of the rocks. There are hikes of different levels and duration that those that wish can do. The shortest takes you past the most magnificent baobab trees and is worth the sweat. The shower is heated by the donkey but gives hot water for at least 2 hours, more than enough for the biggest family to get clean. The accomodation is placed strategically so there is no overlooking your neighbours. The moon and stars are brilliant at night.

I had never heard of this place before and when we left I could not understand why. We have stayed in a variety of types of accommodation around all parts of SA and this is truly out of the top drawer. The attention to detail and the work that has gone into this establishment is really an eye-opener. The environment is fairly hostile, very hot, out of the way and the owners have gone the extra mile to make the place extremely presentable and very pleasant. Situated on a river bank a couple of km from the Pafuri gate, it is ideal for day trippers into the northern section of the Kruger Park. Accommodation is a mixture of chalets (only two I think), tented accommodation with shared ablutions and camping. This place is highly recommended, we stayed two nights and would have been happy to spend a week there. The owners were friendly and engaging. There is a little restaurant on site catered for by the local community. A shop works on an honesty system which is settled when you leave. What a lovely place

Rustic restaurant served the most delicious T-Bone steaks. Perfectly equipped for self catering too. Outstanding hosts and staff. Couldn’t recommend more highly.

GermanyIt was a very authentic african experience in the middle of the bush. The two hiking trails are awesome after long safaris in the northern Kruger. And the hosts Annelize and Kobus give the local community the opportunity to work and develop their talents. A considerable contribution to improve a small part of the world that might easily be forgotten…Thanks for a lovely stay 🙂

South AfricaIt can obviously be very hot in the summer time, and during the night our solar power ran out so the fan did not work the whole night and our fridge went off, but when you choose to stay in the bush, that's the "price" you pay.. Worth it.
What an absolute gem! We were there for 2 nights and it was absolutely amazing. We used it as our base for visiting Crooks Corner in the KNP, but it was way more than just a sleepover spot, it made our whole trip so much more special. The view from the chalet, the surroundings, Annelize and her team. The chalet was equipped with everything we could need. The swimming pool was perfect for cooling down (and we even took a swim in the river!), the little shop was fully stocked and very convenient. I can without a doubt recommend this establishment to anyone who loves the bush.

Although is far, the location is good for people who want to quietness and unwind from the busy of the city life, The river that flow through the camp make it exceptional.
