There was an issue between management and us re my younger son being declared as a child. We input my younger boys age as 16 and the property management said that their policy re over 12 as an adult. The reception lady called the owner and he ok’d my son at no additional cost. To us, this was not doing us any favors as we correctly declared my son’s age. We arrived around 4:30pm as we’d been shark diving on the South Coast earlier and got a bit delayed. So we asked for a late checkout. This led to an uncomfortable conversation between my wife and probably the owner as the reception lady had escalated the issue. The owner quoted about R1,700 for a late checkout, which we thought was highly unfair. When we questioned the rate he said that he had already done us a favor by not charging my son at adult rate. What really bothered me was that he called my wife a “cheat” and said that we were taking advantage The owner eventually conceded to check with booking.com on the child age declaration and apologized the next morning to me. The issue here is that the start of what was supposed to be a relaxing peaceful night stay started off on a negative note with the owner being rude because of his perceptions or lack of trust in his guests ! Also, Double beds were comfortable. Single beds were not comfortable. I noticed a board placed under some of the mattresses of the single beds. Whilst I understand that these are antique beds - they still need to maintain some comfort.

Breakfast is not applicable, it was self catering. The house was spotless and the decor was interesting, beautifully done, with each room different. The gardens were great, and walking round the farm interesting and then driving to the view point of the Oribi Gorge was amazing. So a successful trip all round.

I did not like that when someone takes a shower for 5 minutes, the hot water runs out, and the next person has to wait for an hour for the water to get hot again.

I liked the location of the farm,the views are beautiful. We enjoyed using outside facilities.

There's no WiFi, and cell phone reception is almost nonexistent.

The accommodation is nice and the furniture is OK. The tableware is complete. Just need a chopping board. The bath water is good. The bed is clean and the bedding is warm. Please refund R1000 to my credit card account.

Great farm-style location near the Oribi gorge. Generator back-up. In these days of heavy loadshedding, its a great add-on.

One or two pillows are needing replacing. A little flat but luckily we had other beds in the house not being used where we could swap them out. Hopefully someone will open up a decent restaurant in the area with good food, that allows children under 12, to add to the whole enjoyment of the experience.

Wow what value for money! My children loved exploring! Staff were so welcoming and accommodating. For self catering it far exceeded our expectations with all basic amenities supplied. Loved the smell of the body soap 🤣 What a bonus that the house was cleaned so beautifully every day. By far the best accommodation space and value for money in the area. View from the view point was beautiful, with a little waterfall. Please start to offer breakfast at your beautiful property. We would have paid extra to have this option available.

We went on a hike to the lookout point and found the route barricaded and couldn't go on. We were not made aware of this and basically took a 7km walk along the sugar cane. That was disappointing. The toilets need to be improved. The water sits way high up than normal in the Shuttleworth house

We were so intrigued by the prospect of a view of the gorge by following the signs for Best View. However, we were not prepared for the length of the hike so we had to turn around at some point. My suggestion is that you provide more information to your guests about what this hike entails, so that they would approach the hike with a sense of the length, need to take along water, etc. And definitely, a 4x4 is needed to drive to the starting point.

Location is beautiful! We loved the old farm house vibe.

There were quite a few cob webs in the kitchen, but not unclean. More cover outside would be a nice addition as we only planned to braai and had to do so in the rain on the first evening. Otherwise very happy!

I liked that we had our own space which was bigger than expected. It was sufficiently equipped with cooking facilities, cutlery and linen.
