How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The road to get there

That we had to leave... The only improvement that could further enhance the experience would be a more descriptive social media presense to better include non-hunting activities & options.
All around great service, set in a beautiful scenery! Fantastically friendly staff, delicious meals and a comfortable & clean room.

The fact that it is a hunting lodge, which we weren't really aware of when we booked. We are animal lovers and all the taxidermy freaked us out somewhat.
Staff and service were lovely. Bike ride in the reserve was fun.

The dirt road to Otterskloof
The staff Hester and The chef Orlandi welcomed us with a cold welcome drink and hand clothes. They were very friendly and took us to our room. Otterskloof is an Oasis in the dessert.

Slightly off the N1 but worth the drive. have to be able to drive dirt road.
So quiet and serene. The Karoo has a stillness that you get nowhere else. The service ,dinner and breakfast was fantastic, the room super luxury, unfortunately not a bath.

We had an amazing time at Otters Kloof. The staff was really impressive and the food was top quality. The drive around the farm was also enjoyable. Enjoyed the game viewing.

The road after all the rain between Phillipolis and Otterskloof. Especially if you do not drive a 4x4.

the road getting there is in bad condition. the dinner was a bit disappointing. it could have been a nice atmosphere, the dining room is great, but somehow it felt more like a canteen, since it was so noisy and too many people just running around. staff could be trained better to make guests feel comfortable. it was very noisy from the kitchen and I had the impression staff wanted us to finish eating as quick as possible. also communication was difficult. when we arrived the staff did not really talk to us, also when we left. they were not aware that we had booked two rooms, not only one. the amount deducted by booking was not correct and the hotel didn’t know I had made a payment already. finally leaving we didn’t get a code to leave the property so we had to drive back. it’s a shame that all these issues spoiled the experience which could have been much better as the place itself is really nice.

We did a last minute booking change so landed up with a room at the back of the property near the cold room facilities. We were however accommodated which we appreciated.
Beautiful location with friendly and accommodating staff. Our luggage landed up being locked in the rear of our vehicle and due to a faulty lock we could not get to it. The owner and staff went to extra lengths to organise us tooth brushes etc.

We were unable to order dinner at the lodge due to no kid friendly option. Also not made aware of self catering option until we arrived at the lodge which would have solved the dinner concern.

Would have preferred a queen/king bed. Remember - this is a hunting lodge, so be prepared for trophies and lots of photos.
In the middle of a game reserve - being greeted by a lady with wet towels to wash hands and face, was a very refreshing gesture. The check in process is excellent, with a fresh juice to quench thirsty travellers. Wonderful grounds to walk in around the hotel - and I ventured out a little to watch some buck close by. The staff are very friendly.

The plumbing is bad, the dinner over priced, staff although friendly have little finesse, drinking water had to be fetched, skipped breakfast because of price, receptionist unprofessional, kitchen staff also served up the food wearing their hygiene hair nets, do lights have to be on all night, very little information about the place in the file, not being warned about needing a 4x4 to get there specially if it had rained!

I always book with pay at the venue. They took cash off my account early. I had car troubles and requested waiving of the fee. And zero communication. They are obviously very happy to just keep my funds.

Lack of communication. Access gates didn’t word and codes for gates were not provided. Breakfast rather expensive.
