The property manager was a nightmare, there was clear control issues. She kept being aggressive about reading the rule book even if we asked the simplest question. If you work in hospitality I would expect a minimum level of decency and helpfulness to your guests. There was non of that. She was cold and rude.

Property was simple and what I was looking for. Surrounds are beautiful. There are some Animals on the farm which was cool but other than that nothing special.

The WiFi signal was very poor in our chalet. The restaurant is closed on Mondays - but a lot of places in Wellington are closed Mondays. Artefacts left by previous occupants.

Breakfast was good. A mixture of continental and some bacon with scrambled eggs. Place was clean and the shower had decent pressure. The staff checked with us daily to see if we needed anything.

constant noise of the caged birds that are too close to the rooms. the very loud noise starts from the breaking of dawn nonstop until night. unable to enjoy any nature sounds or even sleep late or take a nap due to the constant almost screaming noise made by these caged birds.

location, friendly staff and good breakfast. rooms are well equipped, clean with excellent bathroom.

If you want to experience a real-life Basil Fawlty then you're in luck. ZhuZhu can sometimes be curt and short and appears to have little tolerance for guests on some mornings. As we arrived, she welcomed us with "they have a dog". We had informed them on booking.com and even confirmed that the place welcomed pets. Once we settled in, we took our dog for a walk, and their bigger dog, on meeting our dog, went for her. From then one we kept the dog in the room, and if we did meet their dogs, we shoed them away, and they listened. You are not allowed to bring your dog to breakfast, or the restaurant. So, the place is not exactly pet friendly more tolerant of you having a pet in your room. This is fine as long as you plan around it. We had Breakfast in shifts for example. Some mornings Zhu Zhu was as pleasant as Sibel other days her inner Basil Fawlty, meant dealing with her was not easy, with her implying your requirements were inconvenient. We even joked about this with a fellow visitor. The last day we stayed there the staff took our breakfast order and this seemed to work far better. All the other staff including Maragret were very friendly. One issue is the birds, the wake you up in the morning, and chatter all the time, which can be pleasant. You are not allowed near them though. There are also some strange instructions in the rules, like out of nowhere it says, "spiders make a web in 30 minutes and catch lots of mosquitoes" and "do not put cats in the microwave". This does make you ask what caused these notes.

We stayed in the family room. The beds were comfortable and there is a little extra space in the rooms, with a small desk in each room. The family room shares a bathroom, that has a full-size bath and shower. The soaps and creams are in dispensing bottles, so no wastage. The breakfast is basic but satisfying. We were able to have our dog in the room and could take her on a walk on the property. The walk to the dam goes through the horse paddocks and around to the top field where there are a lot of bee hives. The rooms are neat, and cleaned daily, with old world charm. Each room has an outside sitting area which was great to use. Restaurant is well priced.

Oude Wellington has a good location. It is not a luxurious stay but is comfortable. The rooms have everything you need but do need a little bit of improvement. The owner is wonderful and frequently checks up on all the guests.

It would have been nice if there were more on-site options for supper (e.g. restaurant stayed open, braai facilities near the room or access to main kitchen). There was a microwave in the room though.

Rolf & Margaret were accommodating in that we asked for a late check-out & ended up checking in early as well. We were in town for an event. They also accommodated us & other guests by extending their breakfast cut off time. The MCC was lovely and the tranquility of this venue on a crisp Autumn’s day, late afternoon, was the perfect way to enjoy it. The birds are also something special.

The rooms are spacious and the Queen size bed is big enough, but can still be uncluttered from brick a brack or unused items. Keep a simple theme of wood, textures and plain white linen and towels. This will make the rooms look more modern as well. A plant or two perhaps or pot with fresh greenery? Remove yellow chair from bathroom. It's wasted space. Air the room before guests check in (open curtains & windows). Perhaps one of those Airwick auto room spray machines? Place more candles in room (not tea light candles)(for load shedding) or at least make sure that the torch has batteries in it or is charged. Please keep the dogs out of the breakfast room while guests are eating.

The old look and feel of the estate. Loved the bath. Loved the sound of the birds early in the morning.

I should have been told that the room I initially booked, was not covered by generator electricity, as it was exceptionally warm in Wellington, like 40°C.

I could upgrade to a more luxurious room, covered by generator electricity, as we constantly have load shedding all over South Africa. The staff was friendly and professional.

Our room was situated right next to a few bird cages and they were extremely loud and woke us up at the crack of dawn most mornings. We also had a plumbing issue in a few rooms where the sink and shower wasn't draining.

The property is really beautiful and the rooms have such character. We enjoyed the pool area and activities on site as well. Lastly, I wouldn't say the staff were the most friendly I've met but they were very accommodating to us and assisted us where they could.

We loved that it was located close to the wedding venue we needed to be at and the property is gorgeous - a lot of greenery and some small animals and the sounds of bird calls in the morning was just soothing. I also appreciated the call from Margaret informing us that we left something behind in the room.
