Great location off the grid in beautiful Cederberg

The clue is in the name. A total retreat. An escape. Bill and Jeanine have created a paradise. The chalets were beautiful. The staff were friendly. The food was out of this world. They are such good cooks. The highlights were the vegetables cooked over the open fire. Fire roasted cauliflower and beetroot. Mushroom cooked with peanut butter. The meat was beautifully cooked but the star of the show was the veggies. That being said, it was all wonderful. The work they do in rescuing animals and their love for the area stands out. Their pets made the stay even better. To see such wonderfully peaceful and happy animals speaks volumes when you know they’re all rescues.

The location is hard to find, even with the provided map and directions!

We loved how quiet it was. The most amazing place to switch off and relax. Jeanine gave us a walking tour of the rock art one morning which will be an unforgettable experience. The food was the best we had in South Africa, Jeanine makes the most incredible food, she’s a magician in the kitchen. Bill and Jeanine were great hosts and made us feel right at home. We had a beautiful clear sky one night and saw so many shooting stars.

Bliss - totally off-grid and no sounds other than nature. Fantastic pre-breakfast walks with introduction to the local plants, animals and history. Excellent food. Bill and Jeanine make you very welcome and at home (along with the assorted rescue animals!).

Wonderful remote location, away from any city noise and bustle. Because of the heavy rainfalls this year, the river was quite full and the spring flowers splendid. The night sky is magnificent, with no light pollution nearby. Overall a wonderful place to stay.

Great relaxing weekend away. Great ECO-friendly with beautiful nature surroundings. We had a cool down in the river on the property. Do yourselves a favor and do star gazing at night. The host was amazing!

The bed is too short if you are on the taller side.

it was a good combination of being active with swimming and a morning hike, and relaxing while lounging around enjoying the views and a good book. the food was good and had many healthy options.

Oudrif is a beautiful destination, the perfect place to get away from the busy city life. The hosts Bill and Jeanine made us feel very welcome, like visiting old friends.

All the meals were delicious. We really enjoyed how peaceful the surroundings were, the stars were amazing to look at. Even though the weather was quite hot, the room stayed cool and our we really enjoyed our stay. The walks to look at rock art and ancient tools were an added bonus. Bill and Jeanine plus the pets are great company.

We loved everything :) The setting, the accommodation, the hosts - Bill and Jeanine - who were incredibly hospitable and knowledgeable of the area. Freshly prepared, tasty meals 3x a day. Stars like you'll never see in a city. Privacy and total peace and quiet. Being off the grid. The whole vibe at Oudrif Strawbale Retreat was perfect. A patch of heaven in the wilderness. I'd recommend it to anyone.
