The roads were rough. The worst breakfast ive ever had and was extremely expensive for scrambled eggs and bacon.

Beautiful property! The place has been done very tastefully, it's a restored gold miners place and you can see the remains of the past. The place is well equipped with everything you'd require during your stay. The host, Gerda is so warm and welcoming. Made my stay even better.

It was a unique experience that warms our hearts when we think about it. The amazing owners, who took such good care of us, can tell you a lot about the place and how they built and developed it. Our room with its high ceiling, stained-glass windows, and decorations gives you a sense of a bygone era. The meals exceeded our expectations, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. In the evening, we sat outside near the fireplace, gazing at the stars. I have a fondness for stargazing, and this place provides an excellent opportunity to see the Milky Way. I highly recommend asking the owners to show you the mysterious circles in the fields, which are just a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute drive away. Additionally, if I could give myself a piece of advice before planning my stay, I would suggest not wasting time on tourist attractions but rather taking a leisurely walk around the property and perhaps driving no more than 20 minutes around the area – the picturesque views can surpass many recommended sightseeing spots!

Amazing location! What a view. The owner took us on a small walk to the old gold mine after we arrived. She is very friendly and helpful. The chefs dinner prepared by Brian was delicious. We only stayed 1 night but would definitely recommend spending 2 or 3.

In September 2022 we stayed two days at Paardeplaats. We had a great time and regretted that we couldn’t stay a bit longer. The location is superb amidst beautiful hills at 2.000 meter altitude. You can choose from a variety of marked walks and there is quite a lot of game to be seen! The place is very quiet. If you are looking for tranquility then Paardeplaats is certainly a place to visit. The hosts, Gerda end Brian, are warm and very friendly. Brian cooks a great diner and pours excellent wines as well. We have visited many venues in South-Africa and Paardeplaats is without doubt one of the very best.

This was an absolutely amazing time at Paardeplaats Nature Retreat. Gerda and Brian are such a lovely couple running that place. Their hospitality and warm-heartedness is stunning. Brian is a great cook. The breakfast and the dinners were first class and Gerda’s and Brian’s company and our nice conversations were entertaining and interesting. You can feel that they live there dream at this wonderful spot in the mountains. I especially liked the hiking trails right from the property. Also the wildlife around the area was impressing. Thank you two for the wonderful stay and your big heart. Apart from sensational hosts, you habe a real interest in your guests! For us you we’re more than hosts offering nice accommodation in the middle of nature, off the grid! We felt like being part of the family:)

The road to the retreat isn't well suited for ordinary cars. Difficult terrain requires a 4x4 or just a lot of patience.

The host was the highlight of my stay. Arriving late at night, he had a full 3 course meal waiting for me, along with some wine and light conversation. Generous, entertaining, welcoming hospitality. The natural surroundings and views from the hill are really beautiful
