The kitchen could be better equipped. For example: Although the cottage sleeps 4, there were only 3 matching plates and 1 glass wine glass. There weren’t enough tumblers.

The cottage was cosy and comfy. We loved the outlook towards the mountains in the distance. Wisdom, the host, was an absolute star. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We loved having a fireplace - even in January. A fire was lit every night. We loved the dogs visiting. And the cat. It was great having the horses on the property too. We enjoyed the tranquility and nearby walks.

Poor state of the national roads

Beautiful location; however, getting there was a challenge as the national roads are in a bad state of disrepair. This, coupled with the heavy mist, necessitated a very slow drive which made the trip feel much longer and tiring.

That the direction board wasn't too clear leading us to get lost and get stuck in the mud and the owner just didn't bother re directing us yet it was very late at night

No wifi

We loved staying here! The environment was very pretty and calm with walking trails close to the cottage or from a close driving distance! The people were helpfull ans the cottage itself was very clean and comfortable.

Road to the property is a gravel for 14kms, reckon ok in a 4x4, though I had a city hire care. There was a storm on one afternoon, driving a bit hard but made it through.

Lovely environment, helpful staff, beautiful scenery. Just a lovely place to spend peaceful time in an idyllic environment. Loved the dogs and cat visits and the lovely open robdavel for sundowners and tea. Nice fire and some wine in the evening. Good place to unwind. Visit to the dairy was an interesting option. Proximity to Sani pass had us doing a drive to the SA border control point.

Pear Tree cottage was the perfect location after our 5day Giants cup hike. It was warm and cozy with a spectacular view. We loved the simplicity of the stay and special touches like fresh garden flowers and fresh farm milk. Hope to visit again soon.

Oven old and broken, so we had to make a plan on our first night as it could not be fixed. We used the microwave to cook our meal which was not great, as it was also old and temperamental. Microwave could not be switched off and was replaced by one that worked well. A new oven is recommended. This accounts for our facilities rating. We loved walking, but found the trails to be poorly marked. A map would have been really useful.

Location great - secluded and peaceful. Farm dogs loved by our kids and great fun to play and go on long walks with. Garden beautiful and restful. Bath water was always hot and fire was great on a cold night. Privacy was fantastic. Staff helpful and unobtrusive. Fresh farm milk and beautiful flower posies appreciated.

I loved everything.

The fireplace was my favourite feature. The photos do not do this place justice, the place is way bigger than I expected. I could have spent a whole week there! The cottage is SO cosy and now I see why that was such a big comment in previous reviews. Although there’s no heaters in the rooms they were still nice and warm (it was snowing outside) We had a great weekend and would choose this accommodation again in a heart beat. Nice feature was the Victorian bath!!

Loved the warm sun room & the fireplace was ideal for the cold nights. Had plenty of wood to keep us warm. Very cold, so didn't make use of the walks or fishing. Perfect for our two nights to do nothing but relax! The dogs came to visit daily & sunned themselves outside our front door.

We decided to take a work-cation and get away from city life for a few days. The cottage is very quaint, clean and comfortable. The views are breathtaking. The staff are very helpful and the owners even let me use their office for meetings as the WiFi signal was better. It’s one of the best kept secrets of the Underberg and we will definitely go back!
