Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThe only thing we didn't like was the gravel road, wish the road could be smoother. we had to drive very slow to avoid getting a puncher, but hey once you get to the lodge. you forget about that road.
The welcome drink was delightful, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. The Chef was the best, the food was absolutely 10/10 fresh meat. The rooms were very clean. we felt like we were home. :)

South AfricaAll was well done.
The lodge is perfectly located and the attention to detail from the architecture itself, to the interior design and decoration. The attention to detail was evident. Everyone was extremely friendly and the service was exceptional. Every single meal was delicious and beautifully presented. The communication and assistance throughout the stay was phenomenal. The views outside and when in the room, out of this world. Loved watching the sun set and rise. Loved how I could further stargaze and the active fire place for cold nights and to keep the dining area warm. There are further unique activities in close proximity to the lodge and appreciated the partnerships in place between the different spaces around.

South AfricaThe room is apart of the main house, there is noise from preparations in the kitchen and staff. It's also not so private as other couples may want to use jacuzzi or pool which is right in front of room. The jacuzzi was not working nor fixed during our stay. This was quite disappointing. As the booking was expensive. A jacuzzi was a big consideration for the booking as the weather is currently cold. I would have expected everything to be in workong order for that price. Food was served cold with small meat portions.
The staff were all friendly and accomodating. Our room was lovely and spacious with a magnificent view. The food had a nice flavour. The game drive was nice, we got to see rhino.

South AfricaThere were staff strikes during our stay. This affected our stay negatively unfortunately. No consolation was offered for the inconvenience. Overall we enjoyed our stay, however, it's overpriced for what you get.

Staff disinterested in solving this pertinent issue. Towels not clean. Game drive disappointing. The game drive guide uninterested and unprofessional. It felt as if they were doing us a favor.Very disappointing. One of my worst stays. Loadsheding ,no generation backup. I stayed because I payed in advance. Never going back there.
Breakfast was very poor. Incedients not very. The juice was horrendous. Service very poor.

we liked the property and facilities were great. everything looked exactly like we had expected. there was blankets/throws provided at breakfast and dinner in case we feeling cold. the bed was comfortable and rooms were clean.

South AfricaThe food, the general staff, cleanliness of the room, dirty bins, no lamps for loadshedding, price for value for money, unconcerned about being stuck there with a slashed tyre from the bad road, staff trying to sell us perfume, with the exception of Doreen who was present some of the time. South Africanetwork coverage was very poor but I understand considering that it’s in a mountain and you kinda don’t need internet when you there. you need to be able to break away from everything and relax. what didn’t seat well with us was the other visitors, who wanted to be much more comfortable at other visitors expense.. they wanted to be treated way better than everyone else. they really made our stay a bit uncomfortable, to a point where we didn’t even feel comfortable being around them. they made our stay uncomfortable actually.
it’s such a beautiful place,, was peacefully, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. they are so friendly, Carina, Beverly, all the ladies and owner treated us so well. the food was nice too. thank you all very much

South AfricaNo signs pointing out the way to the lodge itself. Suggestion to maybe offer two main courses to choose from for dinner and have a variety of cheese and cold meat for breakfast. The room needs a bit of TLC otherwise very big with a breathtaking view.

South AfricaThe staff didn’t know much about anything pertaining the lodge. First we struggled to find the lodge. I think they can improve on their signage. And the. When we arrive the staff wasn’t ready for us. Nobody attended to us , we were wondering if we are in the right place. We had to go to them and ask. They were in the Kitchen. It seems the staff is still new. And don’t know much. Nobody told us what we need to know. We always had to ask. We had to ask for a wife passport, which should be given to us upon check in. The WiFi wasn’t strong. The chef Bev was a little rude I thought. I think she may be shy but she wasn’t helpful much. And would be subtly mean when speaking to us. I also noticed she wS wearing the same casual pants for the duration of our stay and that concerned me. I was just thinking about hygiene. The menu for dinner also can be improved. And they don’t change the sheets. They use the same sheets throughout: we were even instructed by Bev the chef not to eat on our bed to avoid staining the sheets. The place is lovely. I enjoyed it there with my friend. But I think these are areas that need to be improved
Breakfast was substandard. I think they must improve the menu. It’s stuff you eat at home 7 think either improve menu or get a new chef.

South AfricaThe room we stayed in particularly requires a lot of maintenance with chipped wooden floors. The hot water tap for the bath tub was not working, the room needed some cleaning including blankets we were given. Blankets are old and when there is load shedding, you are without electricity. Since the place was full and we could not be transferred to another room, we choose to cancel our trip and left on 5 Aug 22 instead of 07 Aug 2022.
The reception area is beautiful with nice views.

South AfricaThe signage is very poor. By the entrance of the lodge, the sign you'll see is Cyberfontein instead of Phumelelo Lodge. We got lost for an hour trying to figure out the location. Same goes for when you have entered the lodge, no sign leading you to reception, so you still need to try remember the directions from the security at the gate. Our first 2 nights of our 3 night stay were of loadshedding since they do not have backups for power. We had to endure cold dinner and bath later since the water would be cold in the morning - this part killed the mood for us. The lodge manager Bev was not the friendliest, she would get defensive when we complain. Overall, our stay was just ok and not as wow as we had anticipated considering the amount we paid.
The food and lovely view. We saw elephants, monkey's, it was beautiful.
