Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaPerfect Safari experience on the private game reserve. We nearly saw all of the Big 5 and many other animals. The animals are in general very relaxed because Sanbona is a non profit organization and therefore the pressure on the animals is held on a low level with limited people and trucks. The ranger was well educated and taught us many interesting things. The tented lodge was very beautiful. Highly recommendable!

My one reservation about Sanbona is that they need to make it clear that if you expect to see lots of animals you are at the wrong reserve. Few animals and long drives and not being allowed off the track means few sightings

United StatesNothing, loved it.
My mom and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Sanbona. We stayed at Gondwana family lodge which was beautiful. I agree with previous reviews in that wildlife is not abundant but the location, active conservation efforts and overall experience was well worth it. We had 4 game drives for a 2 night stay and saw rhinos, elephants, white lions, giraffes, cheetah, cape zebras amongst others. The service, meals were also great. Learned a lot during the stay about the various wildlife, plant life, local environment along with previous inhabitants of the area. Loved it!

United KingdomFood portion size and quality was a bit lacking. Found food to be uninventive, lacking in flavour and not aligned with the property’s price tag. Lunch and starters were particularly small and desserts could have been made fresh as the pastries were a little soft.
Fantastic facilities, staff and activities. Dwyka lodge was both comfortable and spacious in providing the best getaway and adventure. Service and staff were great and made stay super comfortable and enjoyable. Game drives were exceptional.

Our stay at Sanbona was phenomenal! From start to finish we had an incredible stay. The staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough to help us. The rooms in Gondaana were beautifully designed and had every amenity we could ever have needed. Sitting on our deck and watching the wildlife was unforgettable. Our guide Brenda was extremely knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the local flora and fauna, whilst also ensuring we saw everything we wanted to see. The food in the restaurant was amazing and again, the design was faultless. Overall, a once in a lifetime experience!

NetherlandsThere was NOTHING not to like.
EVERYTHING! One of the best experiences in our lives. Everything about our stay was flawless - from staff to the facilities. We felt really welcomed, taken care of and the whole lodge is so beautiful. Rooms are phenomenal, every detail well thought off. True five star experience and well worth the money spent. Our guide Jordan was really good, and we learned a lot in the 2 days spent at Sanbona. The nature of the reserve is breathtaking and seeing the beautiful animals in their natural habitat wonderous. One of the trips we wont forget. So happy of our choice to come to Sanbona, we felt the respect to nature from all of the staff.

United StatesI can't think of anything .
The game guide was above all expectations (Ethan) We were there to see animals and we did! Secondly, every staff member was kind, positive and helpful. Third, the "glamping" tents were huge, comfortable and clean. Lastly, the good was great, as was the wine selection.

United KingdomNothing I didn’t like. Only FYI is that because the land is drier and more dessert like that Kruger there is slightly less animals, however all the big 5 are there and you definitely get to see them if you are there for 2 days. My only advice is if you are coming to South Africa for the animals alone go to Kruger, but if you are going to South Africa to do Cape Town, the wine lands and would like to a Safari then Sanbona is a must!
Everything is amazing, words can’t describe the venue, food, staff, and most importantly the scenery and animals. Absolute dream come true. With it being only 3 hours from Cape Town you are able to do a safaris without having to travel all the way to Kruger! You won’t regret staying here or spending the money!

United KingdomI can honestly say the journey into and out of the reserve was nerve racking. Our wee hired car struggled with the dirt track and at times we thought we had lost parts of it on the journey. It is quite a journey to the lodges from the main gate, 26km on average so would strongly recommend an SUV type vehicle.
Wonderful experience, staff were friendly and helpful and kept everyone well informed of the events during the stay. Meals were fantastic with good variety of choice. Room was amazing with wonderful views over the game reserve, would have benefited from an extra day to appreciate it more. The safari was an adventure, Chris our guide was very knowledgeable and tried his best to ensure we saw as many animals as possible. We were made to feel extra special with champagne left for us in our room after the safari, unfortunately as we had a 5am start for the next one we had to take it away with us. Thank you it was delicious.

NetherlandsNo Comment
Only one night in Sanbona means taking chances as far as wildlife sightings are concerned because of the vastness of the reserve. But experienced and communicating guides manage to provide us with our best wildlife experience so far. This means getting up at 05.00 and having to leave a truly huge bed at Gondwana lodge.(yet another reason to recommend this wonderful place) Special thanks to Anthea for your expertise on wildlife and driving skills ;-)
