How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The facilities are outdated. My chalet smelled a bit and was a bit dark inside. The breakfast options were limited, where only the egg was made freshly. The restaurant is a bit expensive considering the quality of food. Lastly, you need to take your car to get to the beach and pay the park fees. Thus, there is no point for staying in Sodwana or 30 km away, except you bring your boat.
The area is a bit like a garden with kudus and monkeys. It is not far from the beach and felt very safe. The staff was kind.

Pool was very green for a couple of days. Shower was a bit temperamental.
Food was very good. Great friendly waiters are bar people Let us bring and braai near the pool and provided the charcoal and catering stuff. Kept our Dorado fresh in their fridge. Massive bed.

Restaurant was a little tired and breakfast was quite basic for the price.
Amazing cottage with plenty of space and a lovely balcony set in really nice grounds with a little pool.

Checkin is a tad unfriendly. You need to prepay and even if you do, you still get nuisance pay-us messages. The lodge is currently quite messy. In front of the retired dive shop where we we advised to park is a huge pile of planks and building rubble (or building parts, I couldn't figure out). The lodge looks like it doesn't receive enough business to sustain its standard, but maybe it is because it is winter.
Been here several times. Great lodge for diving, quad bike tours etc, better than others in Sodwana. Good steaks, poor vegetables, decent service for such a rural place. Nice small thatched house rooms with a tiny safe, small TV and aircon.

Windows didn't open properly. Shower door got stuck. Bathroom needed a good clean
Bed comfortable. Water in the fridge was a nice touch and was replaced daily. Breakfast was very basic and a bit pricy for what we got. Sachets of coffee used for cappuccino. Booked dinner for 10 people eveyone enjoyed their meal. Portions we good and very tasty.

The shower in room L1 was absolutely shocking. The water sprays all over the floor. The shower head is terrible and cannot be adjusted to stop the water spraying everywhere. The hot water doesn’t stay hot for longer than 3-4min at a time. The tap has to be turned off and then on again to relight the gas geyser. This was very disappointing. The TV in the room had no signal and the wifi didn’t reach the room. Unfortunately these aspects did put a damper on our stay.
The room was very clean, it was peaceful and quite. Food at the Leather Backs Restaurant was excellent value for money.

Parking near the boat launches is gravel but , honestly not a train smash
Hospitality , we needed a place to stay after a long drive and we made call to stop . 8:40 and check in closed at 9:00 we made call and receptionist was kind enough to wait for us we were 15 past check in . They were our last hope as it was long weekend and booked

Secured property, friendly staff, small fridge, bottles of water exchanged everyday, though tap water is safe to drink in the lodge, hot water in the shower available,huge comfortable bed.

Everything was great. Staff were really great. Thanks Didi, Cindy,Bongi, Oom, chefs and bar staff. Great vibe. Very chilled 👌. Also, perfect location in town.

Our toilet leaked which they could not fix and made our room stink 😐 our back sliding door was broken and would not lock which left us feeling uneasy and vulnerable.... staff where friendly and beautiful location more could be done at the bar it had no vibe and no cocktails !! Overall small things make big differences

Unit L13 might be close to the restaurant and pool but offer no privacy. The whole bathroom needs a proper upgrade. Toilet is a disaster and smells like urine. In the whole I think Sodwana bay lodge is due for a bit of a refresher.
Loved that you are in touch with nature. Definitely family friendly. The bed and linnen was 5 star, staff was friendly and helpful. Room was always cleaned to perfection.
