Shared kitchen could have a staff stationed nearby permanently for cleaning or assistance . The game reserve is deep inside , and there is around 10km of dirt road from the main road , and once inside another 5km . Due to this it can be very hard to leave the reserve once inside

Really isolate and break from the city . Excellent game drive options and friendly staff . True getaway from the elements experience to connect with nature .

Loved this hidden gem, will be back, sadly game viewing not the best this time of year but it was clean relaxing and views to die for. Looking forward to our next visit

Riaan got in touch with us before we arrived he texted us along the journey and met us on arrival- exceptional relaxed service 😀 we were shown to our chalets & the kitchen area it was raining so unfortunately missed a sunrise game drive. We were met by Carla when we had a lovely breakfast the next morning on the terrace overlooking the watering hole. We will definitely be coming back hopefully booking a group.

The outside access road to the property needs maintenance. Crockery and towels could be upgraded.

Directions to the actual reserve from the high way and perhaps a sign along the way. It's about a 15-20 min drive on unpaved road before you reach the gate. No problem for us but we weren't sure if we were going the right way.

Great location, a bit isolated but we really liked that. The room/chalet was very spacious and well decorated. Food was good though and the hosts were very nice and helpful. Impalas and wart hogs grazing in the grass :-) On our way out we spotted a huge rhino at the water hole, very nice!

Loved everything about Somkhanda, the kids loved the pool especially because it was still very warm. It was so relaxing. The Staff is so friendly and helpful. Although you can self drive on the property, a Game Drive with Riaan is a must. We were fortunate to see lions, buffalo, rhino and wild dogs and other antelope. Thank you Carla and Riaan we enjoyed every second and will see you again soon.

There are no words for this gem! You are treated like queens and kings. Fantastic chalets, two pools, the food is prepared with so much love and the game drive with Adrian is an absolute highlight. I hope lots of people will have a chance to enjoy that little piece of paradise!

We enjoyed the spacious room. We loved the busy birdlife. They have really friendly staff that gave their best effort in stil serving us great food during loadshedding. It's a great place to take the whole family and some friends and enjoy the communal kitchen and swimming pool.

Somkhanda is a fantastic gem off the beaten track. We were so impressed with the lodge and its facilities, and the rooms are really gorgeous. It holds the appeal of a private game reserve because it feels untouched. There are 2 pools, which are great in the Zululand heat! The reserve is packed with wildlife, and we had a lekker sunset game drive with Rian, spotting a few incredible creatures. We’ll definitely be back for a longer stay.

What a gem so beautiful, fantastic staff, stay was awesome gave us an upgrade. They will see me again. Just a small leak from the roof when it rained on us on the bed during the night.

We were welcomed and shown around. The food was lovely and the room was beautiful. Our children loved every moment in this pure South African bushveld with an amazing array of animals. We loved the watering hole and viewing deck. The game drive was great and the ranger knows his stuff! We will be back.

Wonderful location in the middle of a community game reserve. It is great how this reserve is truly taken care of by the local community. The lodges on the hill are wonderful. Great views. Two nice pools with relaxing. A fire place to make a fire yourself under the amazing stars. Because of the possibilities of self-catering this lodge makes it possible to have an affordable safari experience. We had a great private game drive and drove around ourselves with rare wild dogs sightings. In other words, truly worth the effort to visit!
