Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe hadn't quite realised that not all access routes were as safe as each other, which made us a little anxious until we received from a staff member very good advice on the current safest route. I was a little disappointed that Addo wildlife wasn't visible from our location, given how close we were.
The accommodation was very pretty and stylish. A calm environment particularly after a busy day. Staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly with directions to the place. WiFi was good. Parking was secure, although a little walk from our room. We enjoyed breakfast and the evening meal, which was extra. The swimming pool was heated (a first in our Garden Route trip)! I loved the feel of the dining and lounge areas. It was only 18 minutes to Addo main gate, via Patterson, where we did a 2 hour game drive. It was possible to book an all-day drive with Stellenhof.

GermanyThe rooms are nicely decorated and the whole place feels very comfortable. Breakfast is really good and they also offer dinner which is a plus since the place is located outside of Addo and the road to Stellenhof is not in a good condition.

South AfricaProbably not ideal for kids, since the rooms are all so close to one another. My kids were load so I was constantly concerned about them disturbing other residents.
Beautiful grounds and property. Lovely for couples.

GermanyStepping into this hotel is like walking back in time, nestled within a working citrus farm founded in the 1800s. The care taken in the renovation to preserve its historical essence, especially the original woodwork, adds to its charm. The property boasts a large, well-maintained lawn and a small but picturesque pool that seems more decorative than functional. The rooms offer comfort with good bedding, and the entire place, though cozy and small, is impeccably maintained and tastefully decorated, reflecting its rich history. There's a restaurant on-site serving both breakfast and dinner. While convenient, the fare was somewhat disappointing, lacking the sophistication and flair one might expect from such an elegant backdrop. The food was okay, but quite plain, not quite living up to the class and ambiance the place exudes. Despite the culinary experience not hitting the mark, the hotel's serene setting, combined with its historical charm and cozy elegance, makes it a memorable stay for anyone seeking a unique getaway.

NetherlandsThe layout of the domes, is somewhat basic, without a wardrobe and no televison. But that is only a minor detail. Another remark is the very bumpy road to reach Stellenhof Guest House. It becomes clear: you are in Eastern Cape.
Stellenhof Guest House is a modernised old farm. During our stay, they were completing the new reception. The rooms in the main building are spacious and equipped with all modern necessities. The domes in the garden are very nice, with a normal bathroom and an outside shower. The staff is excellent with a good restaurant for breakfast and dinner. We did enjoy or stay, quite near Addo Elephant Park.

AustriaBe aware that the domes have an open bathroom and toilet. It’s good for couples and not really an issue, but maybe not perfect for a first date :)
Awesome location close to Addo National Park. The staff is amazing and they even arrange your guided national park tours starting right from the location. The restaurant was also really good!

United StatesOnly 2 things…. And one is not even fair to bring up but just being transparent. The check in was a little all over the place but there was some staff issues but Monique took that bull by the horns and literally handled ALL the incoming guests, explained everything, showed them to their rooms and answered any questions like a champ. She was like an octopus , going non stop!! So this might be a compliment as well. :) The other thing was the game drives/activities. We arrived at like 4pm and didn’t have much to do. Addo Park closes at 6pm so there wasn’t much to do there and (our fault) we didn’t plan anything at the park for that night. They are very one on one and have 1 ranger and the game drives are a little on the expensive side. But like I said, it’s very tailored and personal & private. So I guess this is kind of like a compliment as well. So really the only thing I didn’t like was not being able to stay longer!!!
EVERYTHING!! From the gorgeous estate, rooms, earth pods, pool area and the food!! Child, the service is TOP NOTCH!! Yolinda and Nellie make you feel not only at home, but like family!! Monique, Megan & Francois were helpful, accommodating and know how the definition of hospitality and understanding the industry well and the founders of this estate would be proud how they’ve elevated this business. And although location might seem off at first, especially after the 19km of “African Massage” drive (dirt road THRU Addo Park), it’s AMAZING!! It takes 18 minutes to get to the main gate at Addo Park. But the 19km is an attraction on its own. Literally a safari, saw zebras, venisons, elephants, and ran into the most gorgeous lions. Did you hear that, LIONS!! 3 feet away from my car and had to stop to let them cross!

NetherlandsWhat a beautiful estate! It starts already with the road through Addo park to get to Stellenhof, if you are lucky you will already spot animals along the road. The estate itself is beautifully set up - the doms are so nicely set up as well. Everything looks very well maintained, very friendly staff, good food and breathtaking environment. Would definitely recommend this place! Thanks for having us!!

CanadaTo no fault of the owners, the ride in from the road to approach the gate through the informal settlement was a bit troublesome.

GermanyAs the road leading there is private, it is not well maintained and very bumpy. Not sure they can do anything about it though…
Very pretty Guest House with an awesomely high standard. We had booked the family room and it was spacious, clean and stylish. The whole guest house is well designed and nicely arranged. The service is very much family-style and made our stay perfect. The road to the guest house leads through the Addo Elephant park and we spotted game both arriving and leaving at the hotel!

GermanyWe enjoyed a short but very pleasant stay at the Stellenhof Guesthouse in one of the bungalows in the garden. After a full day self-drive through the Addo Elephant Park, we were warmly welcomed by Noleen. We explicitely want to emphazise the very kind service and excellent cooking skills of Noleen herself: the pizza in the evening was super delicious and the breakfast we chose (Omelette and French Toast) as well! Next time we will drive through the region, we will ensure to book a longer stay and enjoy the lovely garden and pool area even more.

GermanyIf I would have to list one thing it would be that there was no door between bath and bedroom. But this is not at all something which would change my mind to come back again!
This stay was a 12/10! Once you know where to enter you will come on this beautiful property where everything is just perfect. We had dinner there since we arrived later in the afternoon and the food was really good as well. The whole property is super clean and we regretted that we only stayed for one night. I would totally come back again, and next time stay longer. ☺️
