How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Lovely apartment, well decorated, lots of space, with a kitchen as well as a garage. Located in a lovely area, close to shops and restaurants. Very convenient for a stayover when in Port Elizabeth. Will go back for sure.

Having Aircon would have been an added bonus
Roy has a fantastic host with a wonderful place, very safe and comfortable, kitchen with all you need and a cozy courtyard to relax and have a braai (bbq) which we made use of a few evenings thanks to the great weather. Appreciated also having inverters during load shedding. Special thanks also to Noxie for keeping the place clean and doing our washing for us. Overall great stay, would highly recommend.

Roy is an awesome host who made our stay very memorable. He went the extra mile to ensure we had all we needed. The accommodation is in a beautiful neighborhood close to shopping malls and restaurants. Perfect getaway for couples.

We loved every aspect of our stay! Roy went out of his way to give us a warm welcome and really made us feel at home. His advice on where to eat in the area was excellent. The cottage itself is wonderful. Immaculate, comfortable, and in such a serene setting. We would love to return.

We had a wonderful stay at Taunton Cottage & Mews. We slept so good in the large bed. Quite neighbourhood with locked garage for the car. And then there was Roy who welcomed us with a nice bottle of wine. The attention to detail in the appartement and his warm personality are unreal. Thank you so much for the wonderful stories, you showed us what the real South-Africa is all about. If you are looking for a stay, don’t hesitate, this is the place where you need to be. 1000% recommend! 😊

Roy is a fantastic host. Check in was easy and Roy was there to show us the apartment. This was the beginning of the garden route for us and Roy's advice and recommendations were invaluable. The apartment is spacious and extremely well equipped . We were able to leave the car in the garage which was a big bonus. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this apartment.

All the facilities were excellent and we enjoyed our stay very much. The host was very friendly and informative and even graced us with a complimentary bottle of wine in the fridge and firewood for the braai! Inverter for load shedding and WiFi is very good.Lovely house and garden with lots of trees and shrubs. Lovely suburb and very close to golf course

Such a wonderful stay! Roy was an incredible host who made us feel very welcome and accommodating. Attention to detail was evident at every turn, not forgetting even the smallest of details! The room was immaculate, modern (yet cosy) and the high ceilings and natural light from the many windows bought about such a serene feeling. Our cottage included a back up supply for electricity for the dreaded load shedding. Truly a memorable and wonderful stay, with wonderful hosts who truly make you feel like you are the most special customer!

SUPERB in every way 👏 gardens are beautiful and the pool is perfect after a day at Addo elephant Park 🐘 secure location and property in a quiet area of the beautiful Port Elizabeth. Host Roy, is extremely welcoming and helpful, organised a guide for me as I am a solo traveller, who arranged various day trips, including the unforgettable walking with giraffes 🦒 and walking with elephants 🐘 this was my 3rd stay here at Taunton and look forward to many more visits 😀 self contained, private and secure entrance 😀 EXCEPTIONAL
