Things are always what they seem to be! This was the case for the room we were assigned for our stay at the Blyde Crystal Lagoon. The room was very spacious - the living room area - for a one-bedroom apartment. However, there were certain amenities you would expect to find/work that was not evident in this room. For starters, in the winter of South Africa, the rooms do not have central air or a heating system built in, so what does the property do, they provide a portable heater. In our case, the heater was extremely small, and inoperational as the plug that would fit into the outlet of the wall was missing. To alleviate this issue, one might say: I will take a hot shower to warm myself up. This was not an option during our stay as the water never reached a temperature more than lukewarm in both the shower and sink faucet. The stove in the kitchen did not nor did the microwave, so we could not prepare any of the food we had bought, which caused us to waste the food because we couldn't cook any of it. Overall, I would not go as far as to say that this property advertising is deceptive, but it does leave a lot of questions to be asked and a lot to be desired based on what is advertised. Additionally, if you are planning on staying here, I would recommend renting a car. It is rather troublesome to get taxis and Uber to come into the property due to the security, and many of the Uber drivers we requested simply refused to try to venture inside the property, which led us to have to walk to the gate to meet them on several occasions.

It was a clean and spacious apartment. It had dstv as well, which was a plus. There was definitely a lot more to be desired. There were not many other positives during our stay.

The staff members who were on duty at the concierge professional desk on Friday were so rude and unprofessional. They were busy on their phones ( the guy who was issuing the tickets) while we were waiting to be assisted.

HORRENDOUS service at the restaurant. There was a point where we had to literally beg the Manager for their service. The staff at the side grocery shop are way better than the waiters at the restaurant. Most items on the MENU were out of stock. Tasteless meals - even had a tummy bug on our first night after eating their Fried Calamari for starters....☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️ I give them 10 Big Red Flags for their dreadful service...!!

Thanks to our host with the most. We didn't meet her in person, but she was very welcoming on the phone and the property was very neat. The Security personnel were very nice and so were the lifeguards during our canoeing experience. The Spa was fully booked but the lady at the reception was superb.

The construction noises, limited time by the lagoon. Water was extremely cold we could even go in the water. No proper signage with regards to facilities and the costs involved

The strict rules about taking pictures, time of usage and access to the property are problematic to the overall enjoyment of the property. You cannot do anything freely and cannot fully enjoy especially the lagoon; it’s like you are in prison and I think it’s best they make it a residence area not holiday homes because the rules are too stringent and made for the full comfort of residents than holiday travelers.

Fact that didn’t access the beach makes me don’t wanna go to the Blyde anyone.

For the first day and a half we had no electricity. The rules are quite strict for e.g. there were less than 5 people using the lagoon and security guard refused to allow my child to use a 30cm inflatable which helps her swim. On the day of check out you are not allowed into the lagoon area at all. So you cannot even go to the restaurant or take pictures which is so restrictive.

The pool area is very relaxed. The accomodation was comfortable.

The environment was refreshing. Our host was very good to us she kept on checking up on us and kept us updated. Mpumi was very good

Its not homey at all, but i guess the host is still starting out. Host had told us we cant come with 2 cars but security had no issues as lng as it was only two guests.
